I visited 8000 years old prehistorical rock paintings in Latmos mountain

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

A school trip was organized to make a hiking on Mugla's latmos mountain last week. There were huge rocks of various shapes on this mountain and there were very old rock paintings in or between some of these rocks.

Unfortunately we did not have the time and energy to see all the rock paintings, because we had to walk on stony and very sloping roads to reach these paintings. I want to show you a few rock paintings we have seen. Very impressive because it was exciting to know that these rocks were once a shelter duty. The lightning, the rain, the storms falling on this mountain convinced them that it was a god of heaven living on the mountain, and they described this in their paintings.

The rock paintings found by Anneliese Peschlow-Bindokat since 1994, in the Latmos mountains, are the most important pre-historic archeological finds of Anatolia in the last years.
The pictures of rocks in latmos can be dated from late Neolithic period (from New Stone Age) to chalcolithic turn (Copper Age) (6000-5000 BC).

In the rock paintings, a natural paint obtained from iron oxide and hematite abundant in this region was used.

In western Europe during the glacial period, the main theme of Latmos paintings, compared to the paintings of the Frenk cave, which is predominantly animal paintings, this paintings show people not as individuals but as a member of society.

As can be understood from the paintings of many couples, the relationship between man and woman in the pictures is preliminary. The issue is the continuity of family and community, in other words fertility. This interpretation also supports the findings of the rock paintings. All of them are in the vicinity of latmos mountain which is the center of Anatolian rain and fertility cult.
