BEST VEGAN EATS IN TAURANGA

in #travel8 years ago

So the jump from Melbourne to Tauranga was a huge shock for a city girl like me (think 4 million people compared to 125 000 people) especially when it came to food options but I didn’t let that get in the way! There aren’t as many completely Vegan restaurants here but there are plenty of vegan options if you go to the right places so I hope this helps make the search easier for you all.

  • The Nourished Eatery - A completely vegan cafe owned by the sweetest girl with amazing food and best of all amazing sweets! Try a gluten free vegan donut and your mind will be blown. You will also be slightly addicted so sorry in advance! The lasagne and jackfruit burgers are a must try too!

  • The Fat Cow Smokehouse - A place where carnivores and herbivores can dine together. Think pulled jackfruit tacos, vegan poutine, churros, ribs and mac and cheese! Yum!

  • EasyGo Thai - Everything is made fresh here which means you can have green curries that are Vegan! Winning! So delicious and authentic as it is cooked by Thai chefs as well. The owners pride themselves on being able to make the majority of the menu vegan which is a win for me as Thai cuisine is one of my favourites!

  • Great Spice - The best place for Indian curries. The staff are so friendly and helpful and they can accommodate and make most of their curries vegan. Highly recommend getting the saag aloo and the jalfrize with a side of roti.

  • Vitality Organics - These guys are full of energy and will get you buzzing with them! Perfect for a smoothie by the beach or a smoothie bowl if you’re wanting something a bit more filling. I recommend trying their acai and dragonfruit smoothie. They also sell stainless steel straws for just $2 with a brush cleaner so get on that too!

  • Ours Cafe - They’ve recently renovated and their new menu and cabinet food is amazing! There is an option for everyone and most of the menu can be made vegan. It’s always good to be able to go somewhere and have a hearty wholesome big breakfast that is completely plant based. Also their strawberry cheesecake is raw, vegan, and GF and seriously cheesy!

  • George Cafe - Great coffee and lots of vegan options such as coconut yoghurt muesli and breakfasts with eggplant bacon and cashew cheese.

  • Burger Fuel - Although a chain, they have to be commended for being of the firsts to take the vegan leap and include vegan burgers with vegan cheese and aioli on their menu.

  • Chidori Ramen - my favourite secret gem. Run by the cutest Japanese couple, their ramen is amazing and authentic for herbivores and carnivores (the noodles have egg so this is for the Vegetarians). However, the gyozas are vegan and honestly the best I have ever had so I literally come here for plates of it!

  • Bamboo Eatery - If you’re up for some delicious cocktails and some finger food then this is the place to go. Vegan options include spring rolls, rice paper rolls, and kimchi tofu dumplings! Also go to their bathroom because they play tapes teaching you how to speak different languages and it’s amazing what people walk out learning!

  • Grindz Cafe - A super chill cafe with heaps of vegan options on their menu and heaps in their cabinet too. Think of Friends and their couch except 10 times bigger.

  • Wild One Wholefoods Eatery - A gorgeous little cafe with wholesome vegan options and beautiful buddha bowls!

  • Palace - Also jumping on the Vegan bandwagon by including a completely Vegan burger. Pair it with some potato gems and you’re in for a treat!

  • Real Rad Food - You’ve probably seen her raw dessert creations all over Instagram and if you haven’t yet go check it out! Gorgeous cakes and raw balls that are completely vegan!

  • Lucky Lucky Noodle - You can find these guys mostly at food markets but they always have a vegan option and who doesn’t like noodles?

If I've missed any that you think should definitely be on this list share it with everyone in the comments below! Happy food hunting!

That doughnut looks so dreamy :).
Now I need to save this somewhere and remind myself to go to Tauranga :D

That donut is literally what dreams are made of. Definitely add NZ to your bucket list! You won't regret it.

Oh I really will :) I only have had one vegan donut so I would love to have another :D

Wow, that's a lot of choice for a town of 125K. Nice.

I know! I freaked out at first because there was only one all Vegan place but just had to look outside the box a little.
