The Mossy forest of Mount Irau - The forest that looks like a set from a mystical fantasy film!

And no, you're not going to find any Leprechauns, Witches, Ogres or dragons but this is probably as close as you can get to what movies depict to be their natural habitat - This is the Mossy forest of Mount Irau, Malaysia. Mount Irau is one of the top 7 toughest hike in Malaysia and weird enough, it was the first hike for me in my experience of hiking. Thanks to my days of Rugby and Athletics, my fitness made it swift and easy.

To adrenaline junkie and active hikers especially in the Southeast Asia scene, this place is no stranger to them and would definitely be a must-hike in their list of adventure. It is lesser known to hikers from other parts of the world but with more and more words about this place going around, that might change soon.

Located in Cameron Highlands (Famous for tea planting and other crops), the Mossy Forest serves as the starting point for hikers on their way to the peak of Mount Irau. The hike takes around 4 hours to ascend and stands at 2110m above sea level.

The best part? It's free for anyone to hike provided you've obtained permit from the Department of Forestry. You can find a lot of place to stay around Cameron Highlands and for English travelers, it will probably feel like home since a lot of structures were build with English designs as well as the average 14-18 degree Celsius condition. Mist, greeneries, lush forest and delicious-delicacies all around, it's a must visit in your bucket list. However, the place is not always open because from time to time, the Forestry department will carry out maintenance to keep the place safe and clean for the lush flora and fauna to persist and delight us with its awe.
