Sasaran Island (Sky Mirror) - The mysterious Island that only appears during specific time of the year.

Although it pales in comparison to the majestic ambiance and breath-taking view of Bolivia’s vast open salt flat, this Anomaly Island still has a reputation of its own mostly because it only surface during specific days of the month and even then, it’s only for a few months.

This small Island called ‘Sasaran’ sits in the middle of the Selangor Strait where large vessels and containers-carrying ships crosses on the daily. You can also see small to medium-size local fishing boats around the waters which means if you’re looking for fresh seafood restaurant, you can find them around the jetty where fresh catch of the day is served.

The reason why the Island resurface every now and then has to do with the tide and season. Low tide allows the island to resurface and it still blows my mind thinking how on Earth did anyone even discovered this piece of land in the vast open water especially when you can’t actually see the surface since it’s very flat and at best, only covered by one to two inches of sands if not water.

Nonetheless, the thin layer of water covering the surface of the island allows the mirror effect to be seen although not nearly as good as Salar De Uyuni. The only authorised tourism company to bring people here is Sky Mirror travel and tour and the whole trip to and fro as well as prop, pictures and some food cost RM 100 (USD 25) for non-Malaysian.
