LETHBRIDGE VIADUCT on Wikipedia

My previous post about the Lethbridge Viaduct related a personal experience from my time when I worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Now I've done some research about this bridge, and also tried to find some events that I have in memory. Some of these, like suicides and dangerous trespassing I remember well. While I worked as a Intermodal Inspector (when I was with the CP Rail Mechanical Department) I was aware of incidences that delayed the Yard Assignment from returning from the Intermodal Terminal to the Kipp Yard, because on occasions the Lethbridge Police had asked to close the bridge because of either a suicide attempt or a trespasser on the bridge. There were people that had also rode motorcycles over the narrow ledge on each side of the rail. One incidence I remember, but cannot find any reference to on the internet, was a suicide by a former Lethbridge mayoral candidate and local businessman who jumped off the bridge.
Do more to stop suicides off Lethbridge bridge, ask parents

One Lethbridge guy, Johnny Korthuis base-jumped from the bridge in 2013. The video of it that went viral has since been removed from YouTube

Here is a very detailed blog by "Traingeek" Steve Boyko about the LETHBRIDGE HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE
Thanks to this blog, I found a video on YouTube - Trainride over the High Level Bridge (Lethbridge Viaduct):

It is actually amazing about this bridge: when it was built, trains were maybe 40 cars long and the cars were between 40 and 60 t. Now trains run over it often way more than 100 cars and over 100 t each: Canadian Pacific Unit Trains. Also a lot more traffic as in those days. The B&B department keeps a good eye on it and there is steady maintenance done during off-peak times.

There are other videos I found, such as by a Lethbridge daredevil who posts under the pseudonym Epinerein - this guy is certifyably NUTS - climbing the bridge:

If you have a lot of money and don't know how to spend it - once upon a time they ran a Luxury Train over the Lethbridge Viaduct. I don't know if they still do, but perhaps you can ask for the route when you book, because the fishing tour they run goes to the Crowsnest Lake, which is not that far from Lethbridge: Royal Canadian Pacific Railtours

I hope you enjoyed this bit of trivia about this Lethbridge attraction, a place where I lived for four decades.
I appreciate it if you upvote and resteem!
