The Etna wine region

Etna is a special place. A volcano of over three thousand meters overlooking the sea in Sicily, in the middle of the Mediterranean. A land that has seen the crossroads of cultures in which human and geological history have formed a unique and stratified environment.

The uniqueness of the area has not escaped the many wine growers who in recent decades are investing, together with the historic pioneers, giving new life and importance to the wines of this ancient region. By the side of the historical wineries we find a flourish of companies that, with great commitment, year by year are experimenting to find the best interpretation of the territory and its native grapes, mainly "Nerello Mascalese" for reds and "Carricante" for whites.

Wineries located in the Etna wine region will surprise you for the elegance and the typicality of the wines.
It was not a mystery to the people of the early twentieth century that in the hands of man, the vine delivered fruit of inestimable value to the slopes of the volcano. The peculiarity of volcanic soils and the microclimate with strong thermal hikes set important scents in grapes.

DOC wines

The wines produced in this area bear the label of "Etna DOC" an acronym that in Italy certify the quality of wines and food. And if the "Nerello Mascalese" and the "Nerello Cappuccio" give origins to an absolute finesse to the reds, the Carricante is used to make a white wine with the particular light salty flavor that gathers all the scents of the near sea.marchio-doc.png

The shot of the vineyard with the mountain in the background is spectacular.

absolutely @rangertx, you are right, and consider that the mountain is an active volcano

Beautiful wines, most definitely! I Love Italian wines, Brunello is my favorite, possible Barolo... It depends on the mood and food, as I like to say. LOL! Feel free to use the new steempub tag in your next alcohol post. It helps keep all of the alcohol related posts together, and easy to find. Beer, wine, cocktails, etc. Cheers from Texas!

absolutely @thewineman, if you did't tried yet the wines coming from Etna, you should, maybe it's hard to find them US but if you have the occasion taste them! Our soil is mainly composed by recent erosion of lava stones, so we can say it's a wine coming directly from the center of the planet ;) I added the new tag on this post. Feel free to resteem this post if you want. Cheers from Sicily.

Hey, thank you for adding it!!! You are very kind, your support is greatly appreciated! We do get some Sicilian wines here in the US. I'm a a huge fan of Tenuta delle Terre Nere - Etna Rosso, I just bought some of the '15, what a great bottle!! Also, I enjoy the Cos wines, mainly Nero d'Avola. It is one of my favorite grapes! Oh ya, I always resteemed any post that Is in steempub, as a thank you for support.

yeah @princejersi, once in the lifetime it's needed to visit Italy

what a place for a wine tasting...

yes @fmd, and in September there is a village called Milo, where they prepare a "wine path" through which you can taste the different Etna wines

Boy do I love a good wine. Would love to visit Italy one day.
