Travel Canada: Upper Canada Village
If Hungary has the famous Skanzen, open air museum of Szentendre, Canada has Upper Canada Village, and visiting this "village" is a must if you'd like to see how life was in Canada, back in early 19th century.
At this village you can visit timber houses of broom maker, bread maker, the flour mill, and tons more. Villagers will show you how to make quilts, cheese, and even canning food. Many of them are pretty entertaining to watch.
When you have extra cash, you can even take a black and white (or sepia) picture dressed up as in old days, but this is rather pricey in my opinion ✌️So we didn't, we are cheap people 😅
Spare at least 2 H when you decide to tour around the village and certainly not when it's almost closing hours, and definitely not when you know the weather is crappy as you would miss tons of activities - take it from our experience 😂 The weather was crappy, cloudy and rained, we missed many things like river boating, mini train, even the horse carriage ride around the village, it was a bummer.
Occasionally there are special performances, themes (e.g Halloween, Christmas), etc depending what celebration is coming in Canada and whatnot, so please check their website.
One place that is also fun to visit while at Upper Canada Village is their gift shop. You can find baked goodies and products (fudges, candies, shoes, quilts, crafts, etc) produced from the timber houses you visit!
Note I might update this blog with video(s) in the future, most likely post a new blog as past 7 days this blog isn't editable. We recorded videos too which show more of the village but they are big files, I have to edit them first.
Upper Canada Village is an awesome place to visit. Our kids went several times as part of a school trip and they wanted to go back so we took them several times to. We only hit it once when the weather was crappy. So I guess we lucked out!
I'd love to return here, esp when they have musical performances. We didn't catch them when we went there. We came bright sunny, but after an H going around, started to rain 😌

I love to visit places like this!
We love visiting places like this! There's a museum down the road (which we're probably due for a revisit as it's been a few years) that does school excursions (including for homeschoolers) where they dress up in period dress to run the activities, it's great fun XD
Looks like a marvelous place to spend an afternoon!
