The Tuileries Gardens

At the beginning of the 16th century, instead of the gardens that are found today, there was a career where clay tiles were produced (hence the name the Tuileries comes from). After the death of Henri II in 1159, his wife Catherine of Midicis, built a palace in this area - Palais de Tuileries. The palace had a huge garden in Italian style, meant to remind her of native Tuscany.

Tuileries Gardens is a special objective in Paris, and is located between the Louvre museum and Place de la Concorde. It was officially opened to the public in 1667 and became a public park just after the French Revolution. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Tuileries Gardens was the place where Parisians were celebrating various events, or just walking around and relaxing.

After the owner's death ( Louis XIV), the garden remained legacy to his successor Louis XV who was only 5 years old. For several years, the park has been abandoned, and after 40 years it was restored and received again the status of a very popular tourist attraction.

Holidays as August 25 were celebrated with concerts and fireworks in the park, so that visitors could enjoy together with the locals, tasting the unique and impressive atmosphere. A unique and impressive moment was on December 1-1783 when Alexander Cesar Chalers and Nicolas Luis Robert launched a giant balloon from the Tuileries Gardens. Food stalls were placed for those who were hungry, and the chairs could be rented for a very small amounts of money.

Palais de Tuileries, located very close to the Arc du Carrousel, was demolished in 1871, making room for a view from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe.

In 1998, when Jacques Chirac was president, modern works were brought, such as sculptures by Jean Dubuffet and Henri Lawrence. In 2000, the authorities decided it is time to place in the park, works of art made by contemporary artists.

If you want to spend a wonderful day, Tuileries Gardens is the right choice. Don't hesitate to go there. I enjoyed every minute of the time spent there and I wish I knew so many things about this garden, back then, but is never too late to learn.

Amazing photographs. That would definitely be a destination for me if I ever made it across the pond to visit France. Strangely, I've never been attracted to the Eiffel Tower because it seems so "touristy" but I could definitely picnic and drink wine in the gardens. :)

Thank you very much! I think it will be a great destination for a lot of people! I also saw the Eiffel Tower and it was incredible! When you go up, at the middle of the tower there is also a garden!
