Pleasantly Lost.

in #travel7 years ago

After I got out of work tonight, I had some dinner then I went for a long drive on my motorcycle. I didn't really have a destination just decided to drive along the Niagara River, along the Canadian border, near Niagara Falls NY. I drove and drove till eventually I was lost. (The beauty of the digital age, you can't really get lost with GPS on your phone and it makes for some interesting travels :)

It was easy to get lost with this scenery. I had to pull over along the highway to snap this image. At the time I genuinely didn't know where I was.

This is actually an abandoned part of a State Park along the Niagara Gorge.

After I took that image, I hopped back on my bike and started driving again. I knew I was heading in the right direction, but had no clue where I was. Suddenly I came across a sign that read, Devil's Hole State Park. LOL, I used to hang out here when I was a kid and drink beer in this gorge. The sign brought back a lot of memories. Now that I knew where I was I decided to take a break and pulled over in the overlook section of the park.

This is the old turbine power plant. On the other side of the water is Canada. There's trails leading down to the bottom of the gorge and when we were teenagers it was a popular place to go and get drunk. People would show up from all over the place to party in the gorge. I've heard the cops have really cracked down on this sort of behavior now, and there were a lot of border patrol vehicles all over the park.

The sun began to set, and I decided to snap one last picture and start heading home. This was about an hours drive outside of the city, and it's actually starting to get cold at night already. I really wasn't wearing that heavy of a jacket so I snapped one last picture of Christine as she rested.

LOL, I decided to name the bike Christine, after the movie about the possessed car. I did it for two reasons. The bike has a serious goth theme with bats, skulls, and skeletons hidden in the paint work and chrome. I'll post some closeups one day when I snap a bunch of pictures. But the main reason I decided to name her Christine was because I was trying to fix the tail-light because it kept shorting out. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to work. Finally I put everything back together and said, "That's it! Tomorrow I take it down to Big Ed's and he can fix it!" Wouldn't you know, when I slipped the key into the ignition, the light lit up, and hasn't burnt out since. My father was watching me work on the bike and he couldn't stop laughing as I said, "Holy shit! I bought Christine. It's possessed!" So I've called it Christine since.

Anyway hope you enjoyed the story and the short tour of the Niagara Falls gorge. I'll be posting more images of mine and Christine's travels as time permits. Thanks for reading, and if you're not already, I hope you decide to follow @the-bitcoin-dood on Steemit. Good night everyone.

Christine, not sure if that's asking for bad luck or not... But since the light hasn't gone out yet, I hope it's the latter! Haha.

It's so funny to hear about what and where kids would go during their rebellious teen years. I never drank during high school - So I never had any "hiding spots" like this. Hahah. I should really go "get lost" sometime soon. I keep finding "more important/better things to do" but this could be really something. I keep telling myself I'd like to "figure out where that road leads". I will have to do it soon. :D

It was really funny when I realized where I was. It brought a huge flood of memories from my teen years. I think it was the first time I was ever there during daylight hours, and couldn't believe the scenery. I was just riding and seen a sign that read 'Scenic Interstate' so I took it. It was the last exit before the bridge to enter Canada right on the border.

I haven't taken a good road trip with no destination in a long time. This was just a little over an hour outside of Buffalo. Road trips really are a great way to clear your head. I don't know if we ever figure out "where the roads lead" but a little adventure in the meantime never hurts :)

That's really amazing that it lead you there. :D

I really like your style, posts like this inspire me to start my own travel blog

Thanks, glad it inspired you! Get out there and start blogging man :)

Sorry for the late reply, just seen this comment. You always get great images from the other side of the border! I love your photos from the Canadian side of the falls. You guys get the better view :) Glad you enjoyed the photos. If you ever make it state side, we should try to meet up at the casino or something for a drink. Enjoy your trip :)
