The scent in the air
Do you recognize the buildings? Yep, I am/was in Amsterdam, Netherlands, but only for a few hours as I am already on my way to the training location for the week, which is a few hours away by train.
Amsterdam must be one of the coolest places on earth, or at least one of the hippest. Pretty much everywhere to look has some kind of specialty something or other - or perhaps it is just the smell of weed in the air.
I had one mission to do while I was here, and I failed. I was trying to get two stamped copies of The Diary of Anne Frank from the house to replace the ones stolen when we were robbed on holiday years ago. Problem is, the bookshop can no longer be entered without going through the museum and even if I had time, I have my suitcase with me which I can't enter with. Well, I got my 10,000 steps in, and I carried my bags all that way too.
It is nice to be back in a city I have visited earlier as it feels familiar and I know my way around well enough to not get lost or worry about timing. It is also weird to be here without my wife - even though we were only here for a few nights, we spent a lot of time walking these streets.
I haven't eaten anything since 6am this morning as even though it is a grey old day, I prefer to spend the time sightseeing, if you can call what I did, that. It was a little flyby, but much better than nothing.
These are a few of the images I grabbed along the way and I put them into Lightroom mobile to straighten them up a little where I could. I am hoping to get back here toward the end of the week and get a few night shots of the city with the Christmas lights on.
I am going to finish this off here as I don't know how good the connection is going to be on the train journey as the first leg was spotty at best. While traveling for work can be well lonely, I can't say that I don't get to see anything pretty along the road.
And unlike some cities, the smell of Amsterdam on the breeze is far from unpleasant :)

I need to get back this way 😍
I love it
I would love to spend a week or so here so I could explore and perhaps have a bit of a taste of the city :D
I was here in the summer last time and there were a few really nice days with blue skies. Not this time I think, but it is still pretty.

Welcome in my humbly cool country :D As lively as Amsterdam is, your training location is in one of our ‘economically shrinking areas’ (the whole province is seeing more and more empty cities and villages) as they call it, so I’m curious what you think of it in comparison. Cheers!

Will see it soon enough. Perhaps my presence will revitalise the area and make it an economic powerhouse ;D
Well, the fact they get an outside visitor is already going to add twice as much live to the area :P

:D
That's awesome. I bet you had a great time. The architecture is quite impressive. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi @tarazkp! Wouldn't your wife mind if you were in such a beautiful city without her?
Omg, I pitifully live in one of the hottest places on earth :') I live on an island called Margarita, Venezuela
I really like the pictures you took, what did you use to take them? It makes me want to go around my city and take some pics too 🤔
My wife seems to prefer me having a job than worrying about where I visit :D
I remember playing a game called Pirates on the Amiga 500 and I would often sail around Margarita.
The camera is an Olympus EM-1
The water streets are cool but all I can think of with those buildings is fire hazard 😵
Sorry you couldn’t get more copies of the books 😔 but seems you managed to have a good time anyway 🙃
the buildings can e very narrow. Supposedly it is by design as the building laws at the time charged tax on the width exposed to the water, so they are narrow, deep and high (for the time). Now it is just the residents who are high.
I was disappointed in the books, I thought they would be the best travel gifts.
Very beautiful Amsterdam...
Don't forget to visit 'the doors' cafe ;)
there are many cafes I would like to visit here, not sure if I can though.
