Wat Na Phra Meru, a beautiful ancient temple, Ayutthaya

Wat Na Phra Meru or officially called Wat Na Phra Meru Ra Chi Ka Ram Worawihan is an ancient temple which was built in the early Ayutthaya period.

Wat Na Phra Meru was originally a place for the royal cremation of kings in the early Ayutthaya period. (the word “Meru” in the name of the temple means crematory)

Wat Na Phra Meru is a temple that the Burmese used as a military headquarters, so it was not destroyed or burned down by the Burmese as most temples in Ayutthaya.

That’s why Wat Na Phra Meru still has the most complete Ayutthaya architecture until present.

The highlight of the temple is the Buddha statue named Phra Phuttha Nimit Wichitmaramoli Si Sanphet Borommatrailokanat or it’s called by local people as Phra Phuttha Nimit.

It is the principal Buddha statue in Ubosot. It is considered a large and very beautiful Buddha statue in the Ayutthaya period.

It is believed that the sacredness of this Buddha statue makes enemies fearful and not destroy the temple and keeps Ayutthaya safe from enemies at all times.

Besides, the whole body of the Buddha statue has hardly been damaged at all.

In addition, some people also believe that walking under the gable arch of the temple can get rid of bad luck from their life and they can ask for blessings on various matters.

Inside the Ubosot, there are valuable mural paintings and beautiful decorations on the ceiling and the pillar as well.

I can say that Wat Na Phra Meru is worth visiting.
