Mongkol Thammarangsi - Interesting Museum in Wat Si Mongkol, in Nan province, in the North of Thailand

Wat Si Mongkol is an ancient temple in Nan province which is not far away from Chiang Mai. Like most temples in the North of Thailand, the buildings in this temple have “Lanna” architecture.

I especially love Phra Wiharn or temple hall, and the pagoda, very magnificent.

The temple also has beautiful mural paintings inside the hall.

Some mural paintings described about flood that local people faced in the past.

The most interesting building is the museum, called “Mongkol Thammarangsi”. It’s beautiful with teak wood and ancient Thai architecture.

There are many ancient things in the museum; i.e. ancient Thai’s households, ancient silverwares, ancient birth certificates that were written in ancient leaves, called “Bai Lan” in Thai language, etc.

All of them are very amazing and you will understand the way of life of ancient Thai people through these things as well.

Apart from making merit and gaining a lot of knowledge as mentioned above, there are plenty of photography spots where you can take tons of pictures while walking around the temple.

Beautiful flowers (symbol flowers of this province) and nice garden....

Giant bamboo and colorful umbrellas.....

Besides, there is a large terrace in front of the temple where you can also relax from the stunning scenery of rice fields and the wonderful mountains of Doi Phu Kha National Park in the background.

Besides, you can walk across a bamboo bridge to touch nice atmosphere of the rice fields closely. (If you go there during rainy season, you will see green rice fields everywhere)

The white Thai language on the sign that you can see in the far distance is the Northern Thai language which means "love rice field".

Very nice pictures, @tangmo. Thanks for sharing. The clouds look really low in the last picture. Rainy season :)

Thanks a lot for your nice comment. I'm glad you like the pictures. Ah! It is actually now in winter season in the North of Thailand, but it rains sometimes.... In the meantime, in Nonthaburi (nearby Bangkok) where I live, it's very very hot now! ;D

I love Nan, I think I’ve been there before, thank you for sharing.

This temple is high up with very nice view! The Lanna style is very soft and gentle in expression. I would have to spend half a day in the museum. Then I would have my picnic tea set in those bamboo chairs!

Ha ha! Good idea! I would probably sit on the bamboo chair beside you and have a picnic tea set while admiring the very nice view together! That would be really great moment, right?

The museum is really amazing indeed. Many thanks for your nice comment. ;)

I think we will probably get drunk on tea as we will be drinking many pots of tea together!
