Epic Trip Part 4 - 👻 From Graveyards to San Francisco 🌃

On we go from Monterey to San Francisco....

We are taking our time going from from Monterey to San Francisco as it is not far at all.

We are headed out without breakfast and are looking for a good spot to eat in Santa Cruz – about an hour from Monterey.
Arriving in Santa Cruz we went to the store and bought ourselves a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast. We choose to have our breakfast on a bench right by the water watching all the surfers. Santa Cruz is a known place to catch a good wave and a surfer's paradise.

After stopping at Greyhound Rock to take a few pictures we were straight on our way to San Francisco.
I have always wanted to visit San Francisco and now that the day was finally here it was just so exciting!

But before we actually arrived we had to get lost again – of course... We got off on the wrong exit and drove straight to Colma.
You might have heard of Colma in regards to their cemetaries. In 1924 San Francisco decided to move all cemetaries to Colma. Most of Colma is actually made up of graveyards. The population of the dead in Colma is 1.5 million. That makes it 1000 to 1 living resident (source Wikipedia).
I had heard of Colma before but did not necessarily want to visit. Fate did want me to visit though I guess. 😎

Everyone knows the typical architechture of the 'San Francisco houses'. When I spotted quite a lot of these houses from the highway even before reaching San Francisco, I was ecstatic.
They really do look like in pictures and in the movies – I know.... crazy, right!? 😅

But what I really wanted to see right at the beginning was of course THE bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge.
We arrived fairly early in San Francisco and had enough time on our hands. We got a coffee to go and went to the 'Battery East' parking lot right by the bridge. There is a little park surrounding that area with benches and a great view.

We walked down the stairs to the San Francisco Bay Trail and the Torpedo Wharf.
Definitely go there if you have the chance. You will get a wonderful view of the city with this charming old pier.
I felt like it was a little more raw and real than a touristy made up area.

After exploring the first few inches of San Francisco we made our way to the AirBnB for our stay in this beautiful city.
We were staying in Potrero Hill – a beautiful quiet neighborhood in San Francisco.

Our hosts had such a beautiful home. I will never forget the bed 😉 It was at least 2 meters (6.5ft) wide and the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. But that is beside the point.

(The streets in San Francisco are very steep)

Potrero Hill is located a little outside San Francisco – south of downtown with a beautiful view of the city!
If it is not important to you to stay right in the city I totally recommend that area. They have good public transportation to the city and a few great restaurants in walking distance. Another thing is that you will most likely meet locals up there only.
We went to Goat Hill Pizza in Potrero Hill for dinner that night and I can tell you – that Pizza was amazing.

(I am starving, can I eat now?)

The view of the city when we walked home was a wonderful experience. Standing on the street in a quiet neigborhood looking at the downtown city lights and moving cars far in the distance... it was great.
