Epic Trip Part 3 - 🐬 Come along Big Sur in California with me! 🌴
The most beautiful part of the PCH is coming up today. This coastline even has its own name – Big Sur.
There are many Vista Points along the way to our next AirBnB in Monterey. San Simeon Point, Julia Pfeiffer State Park, Bixby Bridge to name a few.
We are starting the day off with a drone flight right at the beach while soaking up the beautiful scenary. On the way up to Monterey we are stopping many times to take everything in.
Our first big stop is at San Simeon Point. It is also known as the Elephant Seal beach. The beach is literally PACKED with Elephant Seals. It may or may not smell a little strong sometimes....... But having such a great view of these animals is just wonderful. We don’t get to see a sight like this often.
The steep coast with its beautiful coves is just so wonderful to see.
The Julia Pfeiffer State Park offers a spectacular view of a caribic kind of cove with a waterfall and everything.
What I didn’t know was that this cove has not formed naturally. It was formed due to the demolition of a part of the mountains. It was necessary to build the road.
This information makes this cove a little less romantic but the turquoise water is still mesmerizing.
In time the sand will be washed away by the water and a steep coast will be left behind.
We went for a little walk along the trail and explored the area. After we headed straight to the Bixby Bridge.
The Bixby Creek Bridge was build in 1932 to prevent people from being cut off in the winter months. The small roads back then were often times covered in snow and ice and the people living there were not able to pass for long periods of time.
This bridge is pretty big and a massive construct for the time it was built. I think it is a beautiful thing that it gets that much recognition to this day!
Right before reaching Monterey we visited the '17-Mile-Drive' close to Carmel-By-The-Sea. It basically is a neighborhood on the Monterey penninsula with big beautiful houses and golf courses. Entry costs 10 dollars per car.
With a 500 dollar fee and registration a year in advance you can use the golf course as well. 😉
There are many vista points on this road as well. Some of them are Pebble Beach, Lone Cypress and a great raw coast.
The Lone Cypress is one of the most photographed trees in the U.S.
The Cypress is estimated to be 250 years old standing alone on a rock with not much to hold on to – fighting storms, waves and harsh weather.
For 65 years now it is being supported by a wall.................. I guess you could say that’s cheating. 🙈
On we go to Monterey. We arrive in the late afternoon.
Monterey is a fisher town and is still known for the big aquarium and the Fisherman’s Wharf which is a big pier with restaurants and other small booths.
We chose to eat stereotypically at Chipotle. It sort of is a fastfood chain with mexican style food. They let you choose from burritos, salads and burrito bowls. We knew Chipotle from an earlier trip to the U.S. and were craving it 😊
A quick stop at Trader Joe’s to stock up on a few snacks and we were pretty much done for the day.
We stayed at an AirBnB again and felt a little uncomfortable at first for the first time ever. Before that stay we only had wonderful experiences. This AiBnB was totally fine as well though.
The only thing was that we were supposed to just walk into the house and find the keys inside. It just doesn’t feel right walking into somebody else’s house like that... what if we went into the wrong house!
The host lived upstairs and the lower level was reserved for her guests. Since we were the only ones staying at the house it seemed a little bit abandoned.
All in all we were happy with our stay though.
Tomorrow we are off to San Francisco and we are very excited!

This is a great place, and it is so terrible that a major landslide has recently changed it forever. See this article on what happened along with before and after photos http://www.businessinsider.com/california-highway-1-mudslide-satellite-images-2017-6 I am now following you also
Hi! Thank you so much for your follow. Yes, I read about the mudslide a few weeks back. It is terrible! Hopefully nature will recover soon and everybody stays safe. I am going to check out your feed.
