LONGGG TIME NO SEE!!! I didn't update for about a month because I was preoccupied with schoolwork - I became a student at Peking University !!! It's considered as THE BEST university in China, so I was extremely excited to be a part of this family 😍 Peking University is not only known for its academic achievement, but also its unique and breathtaking natural environment 🌱 and architecture ⛩. So today, I'm gonna briefly introduce these two areas of the uni to you :) Are you ready?

好久不見了！我有將近1個月沒有更新了，因為我最近又在忙學校的東西。我......成為了北京大學的學生！我十分榮幸能成為中國最高學府的其中一員😍。北大的學術成就固然高，但大家知道嗎？北大的景色也是令人嘆為觀止的！今天，我將會介紹它的環境🌱和建築⛩。大家準備好了嗎？

The Unnamed Lake 未名湖

The Unnamed Lake is one of the, if not the, most well-know attractions in Peking University. It's built in the Ching dynasty as the emperor Qianlong's gift to his beloved official He Shen. The former Peking University (Yenching University) bought it and built the University around the Lake. The Lake is mesmerising all year round, and I couldn't wait to take some grad photos with it! 🎓

說起北大，怎麼能不說「未名湖」呢？未名湖是清朝乾隆賜給和珅的「淑春園」中的一個人工湖。湖中的小島是和珅仿照圓明園中的景觀建的，這也是導致和珅覆滅的大罪之一。到了民國初年，北大的前身——燕京大學買下這個荒廢的園林，以其為中心創建了整個校區。它就是北大同學所說的「一塔湖圖」中的「湖」（塔：博雅塔、圖：圖書館）。湖景美不勝收，無論春夏秋冬，都散發著迷人的光芒。我穿上畢業袍在湖邊留影，真是別有一番風味！🎓

Interesting Fact: I'm sure you're wondering why such a beautiful and renowned lake has been named "Unnamed"? It has something to do with the famous Chinese historian, educator, philosopher and Confucian - Mr. Ch'ien Mu. He had heard that Peking University was the most Chinese-styled university in China🇨🇳, but many of the the buildings in the University were named after their donors, and their names were in English (such as "S Building" and "R Building"). This was NOT so "Chinese". Therefore, all these buildings were renamed, but people failed to achieve consensus when it comes to naming the incredibly amazing lake in the University. As a result, Mr. Ch'ien Mu decided to name it the "Unnamed Lake".✒️

趣味小知識：大家或許會疑惑：為什麼這麼美麗、這麼重要的湖會起名叫「未名湖」呢？原來，這與錢穆先生有這密切的關係。錢穆說，聽說燕京大是中國教會大學中最中國化的，可是進入校門就看見「M」樓、「S」樓（以美國捐資人姓名首字母命名），毫不中國化，應用中國名稱才是🇨🇳。於是，校園中這些有著外國名稱的樓就都有了新的中國名字。但未名湖因為景色絕佳，大家爭相命名但都不滿意，所以最後錢穆乾脆為其定名為「未名湖」。✒️

The Unnamed Lake was undoubtably attractive, but the flowers and trees around it also caught my attention🌸🌳:

Architecture 建築

Founded in 1898, Peking University has a long history, so does its architecture works. So, we could hardly find any contemporary buildings inside! This is the uni's well-preserved West gate, and it's become one of the most popular tourist spots in Beijing ;pp 📷

北大的歷史悠久，它的建築也是如此。所以，我們在北大幾乎看不到現代化的樓宇。各種辦公樓、教學樓、宿舍都充滿了歷史的味道。就像北大西門，已經成為了遊客打卡的景點呢 ;pp 📷

This is one of the uni's symbolic architecture works - "Boya Pagoda". 🏯 What do you think about its function? To house relics or remains of saints and kings? Or to be served as a tomb? NO !! It's actually a... water tower !!!In 1924, this pagoda was built to solve the problem of water shortage. To blend in the Chinese-styled uni, it's external appearance was designed as an ancient Chinese pagoda. And it's said that no other buildings are allowed to be taller than this pagoda!

相信大家都還記得我前面提到過的「一塔湖圖」吧？沒錯，這就是其中的「博雅塔」🏯。大家認為它有什麼作用呢？藏經？補全風水？鎮壓妖邪？都不對，原來它是一座......水塔 ！！！早在1924年，燕京大學為了解決飲水問題，仿照通州遼代燃燈古塔建造了這座水塔。從此以後它就成為了北大的標誌，而北大任何一座建築都不能比它高！🌵

This pine tree is a hundred years old. It grew up witnessing all the important changes of China. It witnessed the New Culture Movement, it witnessed the Cultural Revolution, it also witnessed the Chinese economic reform. However, does it remember? Does it care? A Chinese poet used to say, trees would not have been as green if they feel what we feel. Standing in front of the tree, I felt complicated.

走著走著，塔旁的這棵百年青松映入眼簾。我相信，它的年紀應該與北大差不多，百年來陪伴著燕園走過風風雨雨，見證了無數的時代變遷。它見證了新文化運動、見證了文革、見證了改革開放。可是，樹若有情時，不會得青青如此。百年來，你在冷眼旁觀嗎？駐足凝視眼前的蒼松，突然百般滋味湧上心頭。
