Touring Africa -5- Namibia

When we got to the Namibian border we had to stay over night there because we had Roger, the Romanian playboy photographer with us. Apparently if you are a Romanian then you might have a hard time at borders in Africa. This was not the first time he was unwanted. However because of this I was not able to swim with crocs :-( Our first stop in Namibia was a cheetah farm and reserve. They told us that farmers in the area shot cheetahs on sight. So the cheetahs in the reserve was saved or captured cheetah that were going to close to wildstock in the area. Amazing animals, but I would not want to be chased by one :-p




After the cheetah farm we drove to a place know for it granite peaks called Spitzkoppe. Great sunset and interesting place but not much more than that.



On our way to the coast we got stuck. We were all trying to give it a push and with a trick that we use on snow in Norway as well we finally got out of the rut. We then headed for a seal colony. If you have never been to a seal colony then for your own sake take something that smells nice and put it in a sealed bag. Because after you visit such a place you would definitely like to smell something nice afterwards :-p


Our "west coast" destination was Swakopmund. This is a town founded by Germans in 1892, and there is still plenty of people with German heritage living in this area. Swakopmund is probably the adventure capitol of Namibia. You can play in the desert dunes with an ATV, do some paraglading, swim in the Atlantic Ocean, skydive and much more. By this time I had started budgeting and trying to keep track of how much money I got left. Prices were generally much cheaper than in Europe so I did a few thing, and still had enough for some beers at night :-)





I think this place was called the dead forest. The contrast between the white and red sand with the blue background was were interesting.
Closer to the border of South-Africa we checked out the Fish River Canyon which is the third largest in the world if I remember correctly. We also stayed next to some termal sources which had been turned into a spa "resort".
