Walking on the Vesuvio - Una passeggiata sul Vesuvio

Hello guys. Today sneakers and no cigarettes ;-) .... Let's go on the Mount Vesuvius !!
The “good Giant” (as some neapolitans use lovingly to call it) is located in the south-eastern side of Naples in the territory of the Vesuvius National Park.
It gives an unmistakable character to the skyline of the Bay of Naples....of course.
All the volcanic area (scientifically called “caldera”) started forming during an eruption around 20.000 years ago. In very old times, Vesuvius was characterized by a single big peak called Mount Somma.
The Gran Cono was produced during the A.D. 79 eruption (famous destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum).
For this reason, the volcano is also called Mount Somma (on the left in the pic…height 3,714 ft.) and Vesuvius (on the right of the same pic….height 4,203 ft.); between these two peaks it’s possible to see a valley, called Atrio di Cavallo, which is 5 km. long.
To get to the top, you need to climb along a steep path. At the beginning of the climb each visitor is given a stick ... It doesn’t avoid the next breathlessness..
The slopes of Vesuvius are covered with vegetation (woods and vineyards). When you look out.... is really interesting and suggestive to observe the lava trail of the old eruptions (follow the red arrows in this pic).
Going up .... it seems to be in another world...like a lunar landscape. Especially when you arrive on the crater.
Vesuvius is an active volcano and closely monitored by Vesuvius Observatory founded in 1841 on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius by Ferdinando II di Borbone, King of "Regno delle Due Sicilie”: it’s the oldest volcanology institute in the world.
The spill of sulfur-rich steam from the bottom and the walls of the crater is the only current activity of Vesuvius. I hope it’s still for a long time ...

At the end of the path, there is a small refreshment point where you can buy some gadgets.
I recommend to visit it especially on clear days. In this way you can easily observe all the details of the immense and wonderful bay below.
Vesuvius has been sleeping since 1944; the last eruption. Today, every sunday, in the italian football stadiums (especially in the North), many supporters of the opposing teams of Napoli Football dedicate Vesuvius choirs to wake up and destroy Naples and the Neapolitans.
If you don’t live in Italy, if you aren’t Neapolitans….you can’t know this racism (Is it ignorance ? Is it envy ? It's, pure hate).
This is the italian internal racism, in 2018. It isn’t disclosed by national or international media.
The italian government hasn’t interest in defeating this racism... First of all the institutions of this state are racist. In Italy football is the best social mirror.

Oggi facciamo un giretto sul Vesuvio!
Il “Gigante buono”, come alcuni napoletani usano affettuosamente chiamarlo, si trova nella parte sud orientale della provincia partenopea ed è situato nel territorio corrispondente all’omonimo parco: il Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio.
Ovviamente, la sua inconfondibile sagoma caratterizza in maniera indelebile la bellezza del golfo di Napoli.
L’intera area vulcanica sorse circa 20.000 anni fa, a seguito del movimento della crosta terrestre.
In origine il complesso vulcanico era costituito da un’unica montagna, caratterizzata da un unico cono: il Monte Somma.
L’attuale cratere è scaturito da un collasso della vecchia montagna avvenuto a seguito della tragica eruzione del 79 d.c. che determinò la distruzione delle cittadine di Pompei ed Ercolano.
Per questa ragione, quando ci si riferisce al complesso vulcanologico non è errato parlare di Vesuvio (il grande cratere, alto 1.281 metri) e Monte Somma (alto 1.132 metri). Questi due picchi sono separati da una vallata denominata “Atrio di Cavallo” che si estende per circa 5 km.
La prima parte del tragitto è caratterizzato da un ripido sentiero che si inerpica lungo le sue pendici. Ad ogni visitatore viene offerto un bastone che può essere d’aiuto nella scalata ma che non serve a scongiurare gli affanni ;-).
Man mano che si sale, sembra di entrare in un’altra dimensione. In particolare, una volta arrivati sul cratere sembra quasi di trovarsi in un ambiente lunare.
Lungo il tragitto, la visuale che appare davanti agli occhi è davvero unica, non solo per la bellezza del paesaggio ma anche per alcune caratteristiche morfologiche: è, infatti, estremamente interessante osservare le tracce laviche delle precedenti eruzioni (osservare le frecce rosse indicate in foto).
Essendo un vulcano attivo, il Vesuvio è costantemente monitorato dall’apposito “Osservatorio Vesuviano” fondato nel 1841 da Ferdinando II di Borbone, sovrano del Regno delle Due Sicilie.
E’ stato il primo istituto vulcanologico ad essere creato al mondo.
Ad oggi (e spero per tanto tempo ancora…) l’unica attività del Gigante è l'emanazione di vapori ricchi di zolfo che fuoriescono dal fondo e dalle pareti del cratere. Insomma: russa mentre dorme. Shhh ! Silenzio, per favore ;-).
L’ultima eruzione del Vesuvio è avvenuta nel 1944. Tuttavia, oggi, in quasi tutti gli stadi di calcio tricolorati (specialmente quelli del Nord), le tifoserie delle squadre avversarie del Calcio Napoli "dedicano", ogni domenica, cori al Vesuvio al fine di stimolare un suo risveglio (in nessun paese al mondo come l'Italia, lo stadio di calcio è il miglior specchio della società).
Ciò, nel 2018, è il razzismo esistente all'interno dell’Italia, non divulgato scientemente dai media nazionali (figurarsi da quelli internazionali) perché scomodo..Nè il governo ha interesse a debellare tale fenomeno. Perché?
Semplice: se ad essere razziste sono le stesse istituzioni.....Lo dice la Storia (quella vera, non certo quella raccontata dai libri di storia imposti a scuola..).
