The Stave of Wat Pong Sanuk

Wat Pong Sanuk is one of my favorite temples in Lampang, Thailand because of the history it has. It was built in 680 AD during the reign of King Anantayot of the Kingdom of Lanna. It was divided into 2 temples, North & South, to cover the large area of land a few hundred years ago. In 2008, this amazing temple won the UNESCO "Award of Merit" award, symbolizing the rich history this temple has.

A part of the temples current history are the impressive 1080 Buddhist tablets that decorate the housing of the four Buddhas.

Another part of the history in Wat Pong Sanuk are the stave decorating the four Buddhas at the top of the "Mondoi," the mound symbolizing Mount Meru, home of the gods and the Holy Land.

This is part of Buddhist cosmology and the stave were even the ones that decorated the King's envoy in ancient times.

There's a reclining Buddha next to the pagoda and you can see a pretty beautiful view of the town in the afternoon on top of the mound

South Wat Pong Sanuk's main hall's Buddha is quite different than the North. They're different in design and in how they're decorated.

I took the time to recite some pali scripts while praising the statues of Buddha in the main hall. I took one last look at the four Buddhas in admiration of the temple's architect, as I walked down the dragon stairs towards North Wat Pong Sanuk.
