Reliving Rome "The Eternal City" - Teatro Di Marcello
The Eternal City is home to many landmarks from the ancient world and one of them is known as the Teatro di Marcello.
Construction of the Teatro di Marcello a.k.a The Theatre of Marcellus began in 13 BC by Roman ruler Julius Caesar. When Caesar was assassinated, Augustus took over and completed the project. The theatre was dedicated and named in honour of Marcellus, the intended heir and nephew of Augustus who unfortunately died at a young age. He was the son of Augustus' sister Octavia.
The theatre had a diameter of 426ft (130 metres) and a height of 96ft (30 metres). It could hold approximately 14,000 and 12,000 of those people were able to sit. It was considered the biggest theatre of Ancient Rome.
If you are ever in Rome and wish to visit the theatre, you can find it near the Altare della Patria a.k.a the Altar of the Fatherland
