New Orleans, Day Two

in #travel9 years ago

I got back from New Orleans on Sunday, but I had a cold (started my last night there, after I turned in, so it didn't interfere with my trip!) that kicked my behind sideways and two steps back LOL.

Finally felt human again this morning, and so I'll catch up with the trip! Day Two...starts now!

To Lunch!

We took the trolley just for the hell of it, and decided we'd find somewhere to eat along the way...

Even the trees are covered in Mardi Gras beads...

We eventually decided on The Satsuma Cafe, on Maple St.

Slow Roasted Pork, Niman Ranch spiced pork, spinach, avocado mash, cotija cheese, and charred green onion aioli on ciabatta

This was mine; delicious!

This was the French toast, made from ciabatta bread, and drizzled with a chocolate sauce...

The National World War Two Museum

Too much for this post, so I'll do a separate blog on our tour...

Some modern art museum next door; the building was cool, but I avoid modern art after meals ;>

Walking towards the real museum

After the tour and movie, we stopped for a quick beer and snack at BB's Stage Door Canteen

And dinner

...was at The Bourbon House, which was close to the hotel...

I always forget to get pics of myself LOL, but here was a good backdrop for an artistic and relevant pic ;>

Old Chicory Old Fashioned - 1792 Small batch, Hoodoo Chicory liqueur, maraschino liqueur, orange bitters, bourbon soaked cherry

OK, who doesn't get bourbon in a place called the Bourbon House? I loved this drink and should have had two...

FRIED OYSTER BLT - Gulf oysters, bourbon-cane bacon, tomato jam, micro herbs

I was with a great group of folks; we did this meal family style, and I have to say it was the best meal I have had in my entire life!

CHARBROILED OYSTERS - flash broiled oysters on the half-shell in a Creole bordelaise butter with jumbo lump crabmeat

Sazerac - Sazerac rye , Herbsaint Legendre, Peychaud’s bitters

This tasted like Southern Comfort to me; once upon a time, I had a very fun night with Southern Comfort that turned into a very, very bad time with Southern Comfort. Needeless to say, I don't like Southern Comfort any more ;> The waitress did say that this drink would aid in digestion, but I just passed it on after the first sip or two!

We met back up with the unit at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop; I had a couple of beers along the way, and that plus the smell of Bourbon Street was interfering with the feel of that great dinner. Hanging out with and catching up with with old company plus the many folks I didn't know from the battalion was awesome, but by the time my back and legs started hurting, I knew it was time for me to pack it in. I said my goodnights and headed back to the hotel!
