Another adventure around the city of warri located in delta state Nigeria, after steemcamp i went on a tour/ survey around the busy riverine area of warri with @lordjames and @yungchief of @steemjet , @phunke and @prettyjules158 of @wafrica.

The city of warri in South South Nigeria is a commercial hub of delta state. It is one of the major hubs of petroleum activities and business in Southern Nigeria, the city is one of cosmopolitan cities in Southern Nigeria comprising of urhobo, itsekiri and the ijaw people.
Thanks to @yungchief who brought up the idea of a tour even though @prettyjules158 felt reluctant due to stress. The purpose of the trip was observe the standard of living of the people. Unlike nice stories we hear on media their leaders have neglected the provision of social amenities like good roads, bridge, electricity and infrastructural development. It was sad to find out that the promises and activities said to be carried out by their leaders was a charade and all these brings about the high rate of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and crime in the community.

The people were friendly and easy to communicate with, living among them are other tribes from different part of the country like the Hausas, igbos and mostly from Edo state, all living together peacefully.

The journey to the riverine community was a funfilled and scary one because they have no good means of transportation except by boat or canoe, the river was dirty with weeds and waste all over the bank, most of all it was contaminated by oil spillage.

Surprisingly i was expecting to see men and youths as the transporters or paddlers but funny enough they were all old women. Strong, agile old women in their late 50's and 60's making a living through transportation of people to the other side of the community.

The river was definitely a deep one with wooden houses and huts built on them. Unfortunately @prettyjules158 couldn't keep calm with the fear that the narrow boat would sink,
image
she was practically scared of entering the boat and scared of coming out after getting to our destination.
We decided to try out someone of the widely known edibles or foods in warri.

oyster

image
Hungry, we decided to search for food around the market where we Came across a young woman selling something edible called oyster. I definitely would say i enjoyed it because it tastes somehow like dried chicken and stale bread or should i say it gave me mixed feelings but i successfully took two good mouthful.
image
Unfortunately our lady @prettyjules158 could not contain her disgust and inability to enjoy the sea food, i wonder where she came from, definitely from planet Mars...
image
@phunke made little efforts to swallow hard while @yungchief and @lordjames consumed theirs like they were roasted beef, they even went ahead to buy some more to take home.

Palmtree grubs

image
I know anyone seeing this will either feel neaseous or disgust but sincerely this was delicious.
image
Palm tree grubs are edible grubs widely eaten in the southern parts of Nigeria, they can be found in palm trees and are high nutritional contents packed with protein and healthy fats, as well as twice the average zinc content of beef. They can be eaten fried, boiled, roasted or even raw, there are five types of palm tree grubs but we came across two different types here.
image
Yet again @phunke almost puked when tasting these yummy grubs. Though it felt abit strange at first but when I saw @yungchief and @lordjames eating the grubs with so much passion i had to discipline my system to adapt to it.
image
I still find it difficult to understand how they could both eat anything without a frown...

the unleavened bread

image
I have heard and stumbled upon passages in the Bible talking about the unleavened bread but i never saw or tasted one until now. They are made without yeast and are usually flat but here in warri they are in full square shapes with enough flour.
image
They taste nice but not so nice with @phunke who i had to force to take more bites, i wonder where she comes from too because i see no reason why she can't eat the unleavened bread when one of her favorite meal is bread(leavened) and butter.

It was a fun filled, hilarious and tasking journey and great moments to experience with fellow steemians.
I look forward to more adventures.
Huge thanks to @dante31 for making each post count.
