The Venetian Lagoon have a lot of islands other than Venice itself that travellers can explore. When we were there, we visited two of these numerous outer islands: Murano and Burano. To get to the islands of Murano and Burano, you need to take a ferry from the Fondamente Nove Pier at the Northern side of Venice, about 15 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge. The ferry ride would stop first at Murano, before stopping at Burano. The ferry ride was not too long, about 15 to 20 minutes. However, be aware that these ferries are usually very crowded, and you would need to be careful not to get squeezed or bumped off the boat into the sea.

威尼斯港口附近有很多美丽的小岛。我们去了其中最出名的穆拉诺岛和布拉诺岛。去这两个岛，你需要从威尼斯北面的新芳提梦托码头坐船，码头大约离里阿尔托桥步行15分钟。渡轮会先停穆拉诺岛再停布拉诺岛。从威尼斯到穆拉诺大概15到20分钟。早上高峰时刻船会异常拥挤，小心不要被人挤到海里去哦。

Murano is the larger island of the two, and is famous for its glass. Glass is a strong theme across the island, with lanes dotted with shops selling beautiful glassware. Things like glass birds, drinking glasses, even glass balloons. There was this workshop which sell egg shaped glass ornaments, with different colourful pattern inside. Very beautiful. There was also a huge glass statue at one of squares by the canal.

以玻璃艺术出名的穆拉诺岛，也俗称玻璃岛，比布拉诺岛要大一些。在穆拉诺岛上美丽的玻璃随处可见。商店的橱窗里可以看到玻璃鸟，玻璃杯，甚至玻璃气球。我们看见一个专门做玻璃蛋的手工作坊。玻璃蛋中画着不同色彩和造型图案，十分精致美丽。岛上一个广场上还有个大的玻璃雕塑。

The canals and buildings in Murano is very similar to Venice. The canals are relatively wide and wavy, affected by the sea nearby. The island is still much quieter and more down to earth compared to Venice. There was even a local merchant on a little boat selling different vegetables.

穆拉诺岛上的运河和建筑与威尼斯十分相似。运河相对上比较宽，水流比较急。这里虽说没有威尼斯华丽，但是却更加平易近人。我们还看见一个当地的小贩架着小船卖蔬菜。

Seeing that Murano is very similar to Venice and that the bulk of the crowd that got off with us on the ferry would probably go to Burano in the next few hours, we decided to go straight to Burano to beat the crowd. The ferry trip from Murano to Burano took about 25 minutes, and it was indeed less crowded than the first leg of the journey. Upon arriving at Burano, we were immediately mesmerized by the colourful facades.

既然穆拉诺岛还是和威尼斯比较相似，我们决定趁游客还在穆拉诺参观时，避开人潮赶往布拉诺。从穆拉诺岛乘坐渡轮去布拉诺需要25分钟，果然这次乘船人比之前要少多了。一下船，我们就被五彩的建筑迷住了，怪不得布拉诺岛被称为彩色岛。

The canals and buildings at Burano are quite different from Venice. The buildings are more colourful and cartoon like, and the canals are narrower and quieter. The colourful building forms perfect reflections on the mirror like canal, making it very picturesque and beautiful. Walking bridges dotted across the island, perfect for taking in the amazing view.

这里的运河和建筑与威尼斯的非常不同。这里的建筑像童话般的五颜六色，运河窄而平静。色彩缤纷的建筑倒映在平静的运河上，像一幅漂亮的油画。走在岛上遍布着的行人桥上，看着美丽的风景，让我们恍如身在画中。

It was during the Carnival and many people were dressed up in costumes. I bought my wife a mask as it looked cool and we took some cool shots on this very romantic island. We also came across a mask making shop, where the owner was showing off her work by wearing a full costume and full-face masks. We took a few pictures with her and she loved it.

正值威尼斯嘉年华，很多人都装扮成中世纪的人。我也跟我太太买了一个欧式面具，在这充满浪漫气息的小岛拍照留念。我们看到一个制作面具的手工作坊，老板娘穿上中世纪的衣服在店外宣传。我们跟她一起合影，她非常开心。

As we stroll along the canal and narrow lanes, we wondered who chose the colours of the façade. Would residents be quarrelling over who gets the blue building or the green building? But it seems that the residents are very supportive of the idea of selling Burano as the Rainbow Island. This is seen from the colourful but plain curtains and fabric that the residents used to decorate their home. Even the laundry that they hang out were colour matched to the buildings around it.

我们一边漫步在运河边，一边讨论到底是谁决定每个建筑用什么颜色。这里的居民会不会为了选择自己房子的颜色而争吵。感觉上这里的居民都非常支持把布拉诺岛打扮成彩虹岛，因为他们用的窗帘和门帘甚至挂出来的床单都跟建筑的颜色非常搭。

While Burano does not have a lot of attractions or activities for tourists, we still spent 4 or 5 hours there just strolling around, snapping pictures, and just relax. There is something about the calm, quiet canals that takes all the stress away. So if you have been busy visiting museum after museum or just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the glorious Venice, you should take a day out of your busy travel schedule to enjoy a relaxing day trip on Murano and Burano.

虽然布拉诺岛没有什么特别的景点和活动，我们还是用了差不多四五个小时在岛上溜达，拍照和享受安静浪漫的时光。缓缓流淌的运河把人们身上的所有的压力和烦恼也一起带走啦。如果你在旅途中一直穿梭于博物馆之间而感到疲惫，或者想远离威尼斯的喧闹，你可以从你繁忙的旅程中拿出一套来穆拉诺岛和布拉诺岛来放松放松。
