Egypt emerged as one of the world's first nation states in the tenth millennium BC. Egypt is perhaps best known as the home of the ancient Egyptian civilization, with its temples, hieroglyphs, mummies, and - visible above all - its pyramids.

Egyptian hieroglyphs were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt.

MUMMIES
A mummy is a deceased human or an animal whose skin and organs have been preserved. The Ancient Egyptians believed that when a person died they made a journey to the next world. They believed that in order to live in the next world their body had to be preserved.

PYRAMIDS
The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. Most of the pyramids were built as tombs for the pharaohs who ruled over ancient Egypt.

They served as the final resting places of Egypt's ancient kings, who showed off their status in life by being buried in enormous pyramid tombs in death.
