Boracay Is Endangered!

in #travel6 years ago

First, I will explain briefly about Boracay.

  • About 2 million annual worldwide tourists.
  • Annual sales of 56 billion pesos.(about 1billion USD)
  • Philippines' representative vacation island
  • About 11 ㎢
  • A population of about 15,000

In 2018. 2. 12, Rodrigo Duterte, president of Philippines, said Boracay Island will be closed.
in more comments, "Boracay Island became a gutter", "There will come a time when foreigners will no longer come", "When tourists get back to thier country, their bodies will be full of dirt that they'll go in and out the toilet."

The true thing is, that Boracay Island is literally a serious situation...

Currently, Boracay Island is not equipped with sewage facilities.
According to a survey conducted by the Philippine authorities, Of the 150 businesses, only 25 have adequate sewage facilities.
The rest of the companies illegally installed sewage pipes to pour contaminated water into the sea!
They even built factories near the beach, so waste water from these factories, flowing into the sea...
Finally, Boracay's clean white sandy beach was covered with green algae, and the clear sea was filled with terrible smell.
In addition, garbage is increasing as gradually increasing tourists and there is not enough space to process these garbage.
To solve this problem, the government organized a Task Force (TF-Special Task Force) of the Ministry of Environment and Resources to discuss ways.
And 2018. 3. 16, The Philippine government has revealed that it has planned to shut down the island for a period of time in order to purify Boracay.
In according to the announcement

  • Boracay West Cove Resort have to stop operating on the 14th.
  • President Rodrigo Duterta can blow up illegal structures on Boracay Island, if necessary.
  • President Rodrigo Duterta can dispatch marine corps if necessary.
by Harry Roque, Presidential Palace of the Philippines.

After that, Boracay Island will shut down the facilities that have not met hygiene standards, and plan to set up trash discharge policy and sewage treatment facilities.
Sadly, the closure of Boracay will begin soon, and all doors to Boracay will be closed for about a year.

I hope the policy is properly enforced, and getting better to see again the spectacular view of the great vacation spot as before.
AND! I hope this will not happen again by immoral companies, factories, and tourists.
