A Beautiful Disaster
This the continuation of my first post about the mesmerizing beauty of Mt. Pinatubo. Famous for its crater lake that turns to different shades depending on weather, this place has caught the attention of many tourist, including me. Please bear with me, because this is my first time to blog and I hope to get better as time goes on. My friends and I drive from Manila to Zambales approximately 4 to 5 hours. We decided to stay in a resort near the pick up point, beacuse the tour will start at 6 am.
While waiting for others who will be joining the tour. In here we will be boarding 4x4 jeep that will take us to the drop off point.
Dont forget to bring extra clothes, scarf, cap and shades for the very dusty 4x4 ride.
First stop before the hike.
It will be 7 km hike to the crater passing through a series of rocky terrains and volcanic ash.
Expect some river crossings and it will be better to wear a proper footwear ready to be plunge in cold running water. (One of my favorite part of the trek). It will take you about 3 to 4 hours to the crater depending on your pace.
At last we're here. Dont forget to bring lots of water, trail food and packed lunch!
The crater lake was formed after the eruption in June 15, 1991, which was considered as the second largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century. The event was felt worldwide, causing the global temperature to drop for a couple of years. After that, the caldera was filled with water that created the crater lake. What a beautiful disaster indeed!
