Hello my dear friends. Today I want to continue the wonderful and interesting story about the beautiful park of my city. I invite you on an excursion. You can read the beginning of the story in my previous post. So, let's begin.
Where did Wilhelm Christer have so much money to buy 40 hectares of land from the prince's prince? And here's where. Earlier, Christer was a weaver and was a good specialist. There lived Christer in Germany. In 1838, Christer was invited to a factory in the Kiev region. It is Ukraine. Christer worked for ten years at the factory and collected the right amount.
Christer's favorite business was gardening. When Christer bought the land from the prince, he cleared this land, planted vineyards, various fruit trees and shrubs. Also, Christer installed the apiary. Already in 1850, Christer was the owner of a large firm "Horticulture and seed farm Christera."
Interesting Facts:
- Christer's company not only sold grapes, but also produced its own wine. Monopolist in the province of Kiev, she stayed not very long - until the 1870's, when, after the completion of the construction of the railway, imported grapes from the Crimea appeared,
- in the vegetable gardens of the farm, fodder pumpkins were grown, the weight of which reached 80 kg,
- in the last years of its existence, horticulture offered 450 varieties of apple, 430 pears, 50 cherries and cherries, 25 grapes, 20 peaches and apricots. Most of these varieties were never grown in Ukraine,
- in front of the park there was a wooden two-story Christer house built in 1880, which was dismantled in 2011, which they promised to preserve and use as an original example when restoring the house from scratch.
