Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Canberra, Australia (10 Original Photos)

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located about 40 minutes from Canberra's downtown area. It used to be one of my favourite places to go when I lived there because I love seeing the kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and other wildlife there. There are also echidna, platypus and emu there but I have never had the chance to see them. Entrance to the reserve is charged by vehicle. A day pass is $12.00 AUD and the annual pass is $35 AUD. I used to get the annual pass.

I had the opportunity to see many koalas on my first visit there in 2001, because each morning the Rangers used to walk around the large area where koalas rest in the gum trees and mark on a map which trees they spotted koalas on. The devastating bushfires of Jan 2003 left only 1 koala. 99 percent of the park was burnt out. Many other wildlife died as well. It was very sad. Since then, they have brought in more animals.

Here are some photos I took from a photo outing in Dec 2010.

These photos are really amazing. Especially hungry joey and dragonfly affected me. Australian habit so suitible for photographers. Nice shots @snooway thanks

Thanks for the kind words.

Beautiful part of Australia!

It certainly is. It is part of my backyard, so to speak. As @snooway noted - vastness. So living in Canberra, this is our backyard.

Fun fact - Tidbinbilla is home to the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station at Honeysuckle Creek - the station that received news and transmitted it to NASA for the Moon Landing. So the Aussies were the first to get the news.

It also features in the epilogue of Jeff Waynes "War of the Worlds." when the radio operator is attempting to raise an active tracking station.

Yes. Thanks for reminding me of this fun fact.

Indeed. Great place.

Beautiful series of photographs. Love the Australian landscape, so typical of many places I've known in eastern Victoria.

Thank you. I appreciate the beautiful land we live in.

WOW!! Great shot!

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's Travel Digest!

Great! Thanks for the mention.

This looks great. I hadn't heard of it before. I really like the shot of the dry grass with the water in the background.

Thanks. It is a nice place for walks and photography.
