nuThe Longest Lava Cave In The World, Man Jang Gool in CheJoo Island
20171117
It was almost noon when my son got up from the bed. I got up early, I went out of the room not to awake him.
I came down stairs of caffe. There I wrote something I felt in CheJoo island of first day when we arrived at.
Finally my son got up and came into the caffe. There we decided to the place where we drop by to enjoy the tour.
It was the Man Jang Gool.
The Man Jang Gool means very long cave.
Actually this cave is about 13 km of the longest lava cave in the world.
Interesting thing was that this cave was discovered in 1946 - 7 by a teacher and the elementary school pupils.
The elemtary teacher Boo Jhong Hu seemed to be a adventurer. He organized children adventurers.
Below is the photo of that children.
(The oldmen were the member of kids adventures)
AT that time Korea was just liberalized from colonial control from Imperial Japan. There was no support and no specialist in Korea.
CheJoo island has very unique appearances of the volcanic island.
The Man Jang Gool is an one of these features of volcanic island. At that time there never had been studied and researched about the characteristics of CheJoo island.
So Boo decided to research CheJoo island by himself.
Interesting was he had organized children adventurers. This kid adventurers worked very sincerely. They were real adventurers.
Finally we arrived at the entrance of the cave.
It might be wonderful for the kid adventurers to get into the dark cave with a torchlight.
The cave was wide and high.
There were many explanations on the characteristics of lava cave.
I could see the traces of the lava.
There was a large hall in the cave.
As a part of the cave was open to the tourists, we cannot get to the end of the cave. It was about 1 km long.
At the end of the cave where was opened to the tourists, there was a lava pillar. It was fantastic.
I heard that there are several caves in CheJoo island. But these caves are not allowed to enter into due to the problem of preservation.
It was really nice experience.
I bet a lot of memories for you. Cool that saved all the old pics also. Amazing.
Thank you
