My name is Aurelija and this is my first post on steemit. I live in Greece and travel around quite a lot. I love wonderful places, scenic routes, hidden beaches, sea life, tasty food, sunsets. The more I travel around Greece, the more fascinating experiences I discover and plan to share them here. I hope you will find them as useful travel tips, holiday inspiration or simply a beauty to enjoy.

For the beginning I will share with you one of my favourite towns of Greece - Nafplio.

Situated by the sea in the northeast of Peloponnese peninsula in Greece, Nafplio was the first capital of the modern Greek state (from 1829 to 1834) after the War of Independence.

Nafplio is one of the most picturesque towns in mainland Greece because of its beautiful architecture, romantic atmosphere and stunning views. It is also a convenient base for exploring Northern Peloponnese and a favourite weekend destination for Athenians.

Nafplio is nice to visit at any season. I enjoy a walk through lovely marble alleys, eating at local tavernas or having a coffee at plateia Syntagmatos (Constitution Square) and watching the people stroll around. There are quite a few nice stores for local products and original fashion items in downtown.

Many cafes along the harbour are nice place for a refreshment on a hot summer day. They have a view to Bourtzi water castle. It is lovely during the sunset there as well.

However, my most favourite thing here is to climb up the stairs to Palamidi fortress to enjoy the views of town, surrounding areas, mountains and sea. There is a road for an easy access to Palamidi from the other side of the hill if you don't feel like taking the stairs.
