Overview city Poti, Georgia

The city of Poti is located at the mouth of a quiet and calm river called Rioni, on the very shore of the Black Sea, it is a large port in the west of Georgia, in the picturesque region of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti.

Now Poti does not belong to any district, this city has all the conditions for becoming an excellent resort town, there is a gentle Black Sea, and the river and the lake, which I spoke about yesterday, but it is called Paleostomi.

This freshwater lake, located in the Colchis lowland, is more reminiscent of the estuary, as it is fed by the waters of the two rivers flowing into it: Caparcho and Fechora. Around is an amazing rainforest, and the water in the lake is saturated with a large concentration of peat deposits and hydrogen sulphide, some brave locals here take medicinal baths.

The waters of Lake Paleostomi serve as a habitat for more than 90 species of fish. In addition to fishermen, Paleostomi is also interesting for ornithologists who observe here the life of a variety of birds that live here. According to some reports, it is at the bottom of this lake that the ancient city of Fasis is located, which is an ancient Greek colony of the III-VII century.

And in 1961, a scientific expedition found here at a depth of 2.5 meters, made of cobblestones wall, which was a length of as much as 20 meters, and in width reached a meter.

The city was lucky with geography, but in recent years various armies have occupied it three times. So now it is not a resort town. There are few beaches, no infrastructure, some parts of the city do not even have internet, but you can relax, the sea and the sun are abundant here.

The city itself originated on the site of the ancient Greek colony of Fasis. In Roman times, Fasis was considered the northern boundary of the possessions and was a fortress with a permanent garrison. Pheasant birds got their name from the name of this city.

According to legend, Argonauts already brought them with them to Europe.
According to the plot of the legend, the ship was built with the help of Athena, which inserted into his body a piece of the sacred century-old oak, the rustle of the leaves of the transmitting will of the gods.

On this boat, at one time there was a cafe, in which they sold delicious Turkish coffee, but there are very few tourists in Poti, and in due course it was closed.
