Mountain roads of Ossetia

North Ossetia, or as it is often called - Alanya, an amazing country with unique and picturesque landscapes, which are always attractive for tourists and local lore.

To ride along the mountain roads of Ossetia is both pleasant and scary. On the territory of the republic you can find a variety of landscapes: feather grass steppe, moisture-loving beech forests, semi-desert intermountain hollows, numerous gorges, overgrown with evergreen pine trees, lifeless rocks and lushly-flowing mountain meadows, and only such mountain roads will lead you to this enchantment!

Mountain roads are almost always stony and narrow, it's almost impossible to drive on big cars. I was always surprised how the drivers of the Ikarus type of buses can vary on such narrow and branchy "routes" ...

The republic in the west borders with Kabardino-Balkaria, in the east with Chechnya and Ingushetia, and in the north with the Stavropol Territory, in the south with Georgia and South Ossetia. Alanya is the edge of mountains, rocks, stormy rivers, and winding roads.

Mountain mead-tours are grazed in the meadows of Karmadon and its environs. Usually, with the onset of darkness, they descend to the meadows and graze until dawn with herds of up to 30 heads, and in the daytime these shy animals hide in the rocks.

Together with the tours in the gorge, you can also meet mountain turkeys-ulars. These are quite large birds with a protective coloration. In the warm season they prefer to dwell in the upper part of the mountains and descend into the woodlands only with the onset of cold weather.

Yes, the roads in Ossetia are different, and straight, and mountain paths, and stony, and even, and adjacent directly to the rocks, but always very picturesque.

They then curl a snake, then skirting the rocky areas, then they are interrupted by stormy rivers, then they rest against the eternal glaciers ...

But there are places where there are no roads at all, there you can only go for your two, but these are my favorite places, but you need to worry about comfortable shoes beforehand, otherwise you can spend the night in nature. By the way a good idea! Especially in summer!

The roads in Ossetia sometimes pass over the abyss, a few more centimeters and the wheel can move down, and then ... write was gone. Therefore, the drivers here are very professional. And on the roads are not distracted. By the way at any moment you can run out and chamois, or someone else, you need to be very careful.

Mountain slopes are dried up by the sun's rays, and therefore only dry-loving plants grow here, like sage, sainfoin, wormwood, thyme and timothy. From flowers here you can find bells, cuffs and saxifrage.

I like to spend the night in the mountains, but not in a hut, of course there are hotels, campsites, private buildings where you will be fed and told about sights, create comfort and a good mood.
