City Vladikavkaz

in #travel7 years ago

The city was founded near the Ossetian village of Dzaudzhikau in 1784 by the decree of the Russian Empress Catherine II as an outpost on the border with Transcaucasia.

From the decree of the empress: "At the foot of the mountains I command to establish the city, in the place designated by sight, under the name of Vladikavkaz"
