City of the Middle Ages Rothenburg der Tauber

in #travel7 years ago

On the high bank of the Tauber River is a small town called Rothenburg-on-Tauber.
Arriving here, you will see amazing houses, old churches, museums with exhibits of the Middle Ages, everything here keeps a seal of time that has stopped, like in a fairy tale about a sleeping beauty.

And in the beginning of September there is a holiday of the Free Imperial City of Rothenburg-on-Tauber. Citizens in the costumes of the Middle Ages play a historical act with a firing of cannons, fireworks and pastoral dances. A fabulous sight ...

Such a name "red fortress" the city received at a time when its walls were lined with red brick, and the first mention in the annals of Rotenburg refers to the IX century.

On the market square of Marktplatz is the Town Hall with its 60-meter tower. Here and the charming little house of Rothenburg artisans, its construction in Rothenburg dates back to 1270. The sights of the city are full of time and interesting in their own way.

There is an amazing, but slightly gloomy city wall, powerful enough even by the standards of the 14th century, with many gates, bastions and watchtowers, on which you will find a tiny museum of shepherds' dances.

On the wall you can walk around the whole city, and along the way you will see in the Klinkovaya tower, which in olden times served as a water reservoir, the church of St. Wolfgang. For the city, it was not only spiritual, it was also used as a defensive structure, but it seemed gloomy here, and as if watching the city's life furtively, down and we did not stay long ...

A house in the city like a toy with a characteristic highly recognizable walling, called half-timbered, with triangular bright roofs, as if drawn.

And what is most surprising is that here you can meet a real chimneysweep, since in Rothenburg there are full of houses with stove heating. We were the only one who met at Kuznechnaya Street. To meet a chimney sweep is a good sign, they say if you meet a chimney sweep, the whole day will be successful. And it happened.

In Rothenburg, you can book an amazing excursion with a night watchman. This excursion is conducted by a night watchman dressed in a black raincoat and a cocked hat, a bundle of huge keys on his belt, and an ancient lamp with a candle in his hands.

He looks very impressive, only in Russian, as you understand, he does not speak, you must know either German or English, excursions are held 2 times a night, one in English, one in German.

But every weekend, near the town hall, local residents who participate in the choir and who love to sing give small concerts ...

I recommend you to bring unusual schneiballen as a souvenir from Rothenberg - a special globular biscuit reminiscent of our brushwood, covered with cream or chocolate glaze on top, I liked it very much, tried to get a recipe, but in vain.

Just next to the tower is the excellent Brot und Zeit bakery, where you can enjoy coffee and enjoy the symbol of Rothenburg - Schneebällen. They are a lot of species here, choose for all tastes, and these unusual snowballs are packed into very pretty cylindrical tin cans, somewhere even I have one of them left.

This real open-air museum, with cobbled pavements, narrow streets, ancient buildings, and unusual residents will attract any tourist.

And watch the video, to recreate what I told you about ...
