Mount Sodom and Wadi Pratsim - Judean Desert, Israel
One of my favorite parts in this country, is the Judean desert. The patterns of mud, sand and land are just incredible.
Mt. Sodom is a very ancient mountain, begun rising hundreds of thousands of years ago, and is still getting higher by 3.5milimiters a year.
The mountain is believed to be aging back to the ancient dead sea that was spreading over the entire area.
The whole area is now a reserve, and the stream on the other side of the mountain, called Wadi Pratsim, is an incredible hiking trail.
the creek's walls and ground are made of a very soft limestone, you can literally punch a hole in it with your fingers, and the patterns on the walls are simply mind blowing.
The patterns are made by dead creatures who died at the sea's bottom for millions of years and their shells and skeletton decomposed into layers.
when the mountain rose, these layers were pushed into these beautiful patterns.
And, on our way back, a rare view in the desert - flood water coming from Jerusalem mountains and washing down the desert and onto the dead sea road 90.
Hope you enjoyed the views :)
