The memory of Lijiang

Lijiang is one of the most exciting places to visit in Yunnan. It's where the ethnic minority 'Naxi' people inhabit and interestingly they are a matriarchal society where women, instead of men, are the top dogs.

It's a really beautiful place with lots of beautiful natural mountainous views, but it's small village and towns are also a marvel.

The streets are very peculiar, they are not built for vehicles and so are very narrow, just wide enough for people to walk side by side. There is also no real organisation to the streets, they are narrow and winding, and for the most part appear to be like a maze. Without quizzing the locals it is easy to get lost.

Getting lost isn't the worst however, as the best way to discover the traditional town is by wandering around and admiring it's beautiful architecture.
