First 5-star trip!

2014, I’ve been abroad only a few times on school trips and I visited my fiancée in Italy (she spent there few months on the student exchange). Besides, I was actually visited my beautiful homeland – Poland. Every time I chose the cheapest versions – groupon, sleeping in a car or in a tent, hitchhiking or railway, no restaurants (‘cause I can do it myself, right?). Scouting taught me to be ready for every conditions, so I didn’t put an effort to look something “incredible”. For me it was enough that I was coming back home relaxed and calm. I didn’t need anything more.

One year later, my fiancée and I decided to go with Rovia to 4-star hotel in Malmo, Sweden. We spent there 3 nights, but I will tell you more about it next time. It wouldn’t be anything special – just two young people totally in love on the romantic weekend trip – but for us it was really astonishing. The way hotel service treated us from the very first moment – I really want all of you to felt that way, too!

But let’s start from the very beginning – let me introduce you in the context. We booked our trip in April, so we had a lot of time to plan everything (trip was in September). We wanted to spent some time on sightseeing, so we decided to book two more nights in a hostel in Helsinborg. We bought flight Gdansk-Malmo and ferry Ystadt – Swinoujscie for the return journey. We read probably every blog, website and map J Thing that caught our attention was the price we paid for the hostel – it was almost the same price we paid for 4-star hotel! I will tell you more about the prices later – little more patience, please 😀

The big day came. We took our train from Szczecin to Gdansk and WizzAir plane to Sweden (I was surprised, that for that flight we paid only 100 PLN for two. For comparison, we paid 460 PLN for ferry). After landing we took the bud to Helsinborg. It was late, so we ate something and went to bed.

The next day we visited Helsinborg – for me nothing special, maybe the part along the coast was quite interesting.

Day 3. After quick packing and cleaning the room, we took a train to academic town Lund. What’s the incredible place! Everybody should see it, no exceptions! Old streets, colourful houses, climate and academic surroundings … it is difficult to describe in words. At that moment we knew that this day would be great and nothing could spoil it, and we will still have our first night in a luxury hotel. After seeing this charming place, we went again to the railway station and left for Malmo, the destination of our trip. I would forget to mention that trains in Sweden do not differ significantly from the Polish railways, but they are certainly much cleaner and … more expensive.

In Malmo in 2015 there was a massive migration crisis, which unfortunately we observed immediately after leaving the train. At the train station, literally, we had to jump between spaced mats, sleeping bags or lying people. Police and volunteers watched the order, which is interesting that the Swedes at that time enjoyed the interest of immigrants. We later had a conversation with two married couples from Sweden (one of them is a couple of just a Swede and an immigrant), in which they themselves stated that they have too few people to work, and the negative birth rate only bodes even worse demographic situation. Well, but not about it :). After leaving the station, we felt hungry, so we started looking for some restaurant (we had a few hours to the first meal in the hotel). We found a local version of McDonald’s – Max. Today you can meet their restaurants in Poland, but then we fell in love with their cheeseburger, which we then consume every day!

The moment of searching for our hotel has come, so we went to the city center because, according to Uncle Google, there should be a hotel next to the square. It is, we found it! From the outside, nothing magnificent, just a very nice house, inside which the hotel is located, but after entering inside, our perception of the word „holiday” has changed forever.

See you on the world's beaches,
Daniel
