Budapest From the Sky
While my companions went to sleep at 4am on our last morning here in this wonderful city, I decided to stay awake and venture to the top of the Citadella which is a fort built on top of a hill on the Buda side. Built after the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution in 1848, the fort is a lengthy 30 minute climb (depending on your fitness!) but well worth the views.
As you arrive you'll be greeted by the the Liberty Statue which is a memorial to the those who lost their lives during WWII, and was built 2 years after the war ended in 1947. But look over the treeline and you'll be rewarded with an unparalleled vista of Budapest, including Buda Castle, St. Stephen's Basilica and Chain Bridge. If you go early enough (which I did) you may be able to see Budapest eerily hidden by the fog. Bliss.
After the sweaty and tiring climb to the top of the Citadella, I thought I'd let my drone loose and capture Budapest looking north at the main attractions mentioned, and a rare view south. These drone shots were captured right above the Danube River, about 200m high.
