Travel the world for free and get paid to do it!

Hi guys,
Most people think that seafarers get to "travel the world for free...and get paid for it!"
However the truth is that these days seafarers mostly do not have time to go ashore. Many of my seafaring friends have only been able to go ashore once or twice in 8 or 9 months at sea! This is because 'time is money', and companies and ports want to minimize the time ships spend in port. Here's a video from an oil tanker of a heavy lift vessel leaving port.

Tankers are like spacecraft in the sense that the people inside are very often cut off from the outside world for the duration of their contract. "We miss our families, but we also miss things like trees, plants, shopping, meeting new faces etc!" It can be so lonely...

Yes, we get to see the 'world for free', but it's usually only 'window shopping' ... and the window we look through is the ship porthole!

Life at sea isn't always as glamorous as it's made out to be. Some crew have low wages and feel like a prisoner on board!
