Senior Citizens Continue West
Tuesday was mostly spent driving. We left Leavenworth in the morning and headed for our next destination, a vacation rental house at Port Hadlock. We weren't in a big hurry, so stopped to see interesting things along the way.
The historic Tumwater Dam was our first stop. It was built between 1907-1909 for the purpose of generating electricity to run electric locomotives traveling through the old Cascade Tunnel on the Stevens Pass route. The Tumwater Hydroelectric project was closed by 1956. A modern fish passage facility now to helps salmon and steelhead return to their spawning grounds.
The little town of Skykomish is accessed by crossing a bridge over the Skykomish River. We were looking for a coffee shop, not realizing how tiny the town was. We looked elsewhere.
We crossed Puget Sound aboard the ferry boat Spokane, from Edmond to Kingston.
Mt. Baker, which lies very close to the Canadian border, can be seen in the distance. I didn't bring my camera along on this trip, and I missed it whenever I wanted to use the zoom function; it doesn't work as well with my phone.
We reached our vacation rental home near Port Hadlock mid-afternoon. This is our view!!
