Thailand Adventures - Part 2 - River Kwai Jungle Rafts and Tiger Temple

in #travel7 years ago

After visiting the Bridge over the River Kwai and Hellfire Pass, our tour took us to the next part of this adventure across North-West Thailand.

River Kwai Hotel

Next we drove to a beautiful place on the edge of the River Kwai where we packed a small bag and set off on a short hike to our hotel room for the night. We walked down to the edge of the river Kwai to the River Kwai Jungle Rafts.

You could swim in the river directly out the front door of the hotel room and walk along to the bar to enjoy a scrumptious meal near a waterfall.

Tiger Temple

A visit to Thailand is not complete without a visit to the infamous Tiger Temple. Run by monks, up to 150 tigers once called this sanctuary their home. Much controversy surrounds the Tiger Temple and in May 2016 Thai authorities began capturing the tigers and relocating them to a government facility.

Our visit occurred in 2008 before the temple had the tigers removed.

Keeping these beautiful animals in captivity like this may not be ideal, however, they appeared healthy and happy and well loved. Whether you agree with their treatment and captivity, they were astounding creatures to get this close and to and interact with.

Another interesting area in Thailand that is worth a visit in your next adventure.

I thought the Tiger Temple was closed because of inhumane treatment to the poor animals and smuggling. I have been there once and didn't enjoy it a bit. The River Kwai is an amazing place though. Enjoyed every bit of my visit there.

Great memories buddy.
I can't believe it was 26 years ago when I first made that trip! What a great time too. It's good they've removed the Tigers, the poor things were always so drugged up. But the Cubs were so cute and incredibly strong.
Man, time flies when your having fun.
Nice one Scotty.

i have heard about kwai river and how awesome it is to rafting , this is just superb, i love the tiger temple, i would love to visit and stand next to one of those magnificent beast, love this to bits,

Tiger temple..sounds great.

Another great travel post Scooter. Although I strongly disagree with people drugging tigers to make money off tourists.

Thanks for the two comments again! LoL. Yeah its was an amazing place to visit and I don’t agree with the practice which is why they finally removed the tigers I am assuming. Thanks for reading.

FFS steemit. Get your shit together. 😡

I was trying to remember if I've stayed on the raft hotel, and I don't know if it was the same one and the river changed or the rafts got moved or there's a few of these raft hotels around the place, I just remember not being able to swim in the river partly because it was cold and we're cowards and partly because the current was pretty strong, some of guys in the tour group decided to jump in outside their room and climbed out much further down the hotel XD

Looks like you had fun at any rate, those tigers look happy like giant housecats that could eat your head off if they felt the inclination :)
