Aussie’s in the USA - Part 34 - Hollywood and the La Brea Tar Pits

The Hollywood Sign

Hooray for Hollywood.... Or so goes the song. New Years Day 2018 and we woke up on Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood. What an interesting place it is. First up we decided to hit the Hollywood Hills to see how close to the Hollywood sign we could get. Without trekking up the hill in the heat and dust, I think we did pretty well.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

After hunting down the Hollywood sign we headed for Hollywood Boulevard to see the stars and the imprints of the stars along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Chinese theatre has many foot and hand prints of famous actors and actresses over the years. We also found the star of one of the most famous people in the USA!

La Brea Tar Pits

I have always been fascinated with the La Brea Pits since reading about Mammoths as a kid so I had to visit whilst in Los Angeles. The pits are just that, pits of bitumen/tar in the middle of a park bubbling away. They are so fascinating as they inconspicuously trapped so many animals over thousands of years as they were trapped in the sticky tar. Much excavation of the pits has occurred by archaeologists over the years and one of the pits contained many fossil remains of Colombian Mammoths.
