Aussie’s in the USA - Part 30 - The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon, Arizona
Another one ticked off the bucket list was to visit and see The Grand Canyon. During winter the North Rim of the canyon is closed and the only place you can visit via land is the South Rim. It costs $30 per car to enter the National Park and this access lasts 7 days. We entered the park from the East and watched the sun set over the canyon from the ‘Desert Viewpoint’ and then returned the following day to explore the South Rim walk and watch the sunset from a different perspective and place over the canyon.
Hermit’s Rest is right at the end of the South Rim area. It’s is where one of the tracks winds down into the bottom of the canyon and was the location of a premier place to stay in the canyon during the early 1900’s. Today it is a great spot to watch the sunset over the canyon.
The Grand Cayon is a marvel of natural erosion over millions of years. To think that the Colorado River could carve such a monumental canyon into the earth is unbelievable and breathtaking to see in person.
Thanks for reading the next instalment in our trip around the USA.
