Aussie’s in the USA - Part 3 - Hawaii - Pearl Harbour
Pearl Harbour, Hawaii
One of the most solemn places that I have wanted to visit has been Pearl Harbour. On December 7 , 1941, the Unite States Pacific Naval Fleet was attacked by Japanese aircraft, resulting in the loss of many ships and thousands of lives. Our visit started at the Pearl Harbour memorial where there are many artefacts from WWII including the USS Bowfin Submarine, one of the few that survived the war.
USS Arizona Memorial
The USS Arizona Memorial is a solemn place. The visit begins with a video with actual footage of the ship under fire and then a boat ride to the memorial to take a look at the ship where it still lies today.
The names of all the men who went down with the USS Arizona on that fateful day. Some of the bodies still remain in the hull of the ship, entombed for eternity.
USS Missouri
The USS Missouri stands less than a boat length from where the USS Arizona lies. After it was decommissioned in the 1990’s, it now stands as a floating museum in Pearl Harbour.
Thanks for reading the next instalment in our trip around the USA.

Very cool tour. So much to see eh? 😎
When I went years ago we took the boat tour around that little island the ships were moored to. I think it would have been nice to take the tour you took.
Do you scuba dive? We also went on a boat dive where the second dive took us to what they call Ammo reef. It's where they did target shooting in WWll and divers sometimes find the bullet tip in the reef. I did find one, but that's been years ago, the reef could be picked pretty clean. Anyway, it's an interesting thing to do if you dive.
Might want to snorkel in Hanauma Bay too, it's beautiful.
Have fun!
love it mate, Pearl Harbour is very high up on my bucket list
It's great watching your trip Scotty.
I had a flight cancelled to Hawaii from Oz 20+ years ago and took a flight to Fiji instead so I still haven't been. Looks really cool, I'll have to get out there sometime.
