Come with me - to Bohol Island

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

While staying in Cebu City, one day we went on a trip to nearest island - Bohol. We went there by ferry, return ticket was about P800. We booked a day tour, which costs P1500/person.
This was the weirdest tour ever. The driver took us from the port and we started.

Places we've visited:

*1. Blood Compact Marker - it is a statue, super small one, nothing interesting. I didn't even took a photo here coz there was nothing to see. We stayed there like 3 min and thats it.

*2. Baclayon Church & Museum (optional P 50 / person) - the church well looks like a church, we couldn't entry coz our tour was on Sunday and as everyone knows on Sunday churches are closed haha

*3. Tarsier Conservation Area - here we spent some time. Tarsier are small animals, known locally as mawmag in Cebuano/Visayans and mamag in Luzon. Philippine tarsier is a species of tarsier endemic to the Philippines, measures only about 85 to 160 mm (3.35 to 6.30 in) in height, making it one of the smallest primates. The small size makes it difficult to spot. We saw few, most of them where sleeping on a tree. They really look cute and actually I didn't expect them to be so small!

*4. River Cruise with Lunch - here we had nice lunch, on a floating restaurant. The food was good, music played (actually the guy screamed to the mic all the time, which was quite annoying). We get to some village, where the endemic inhabitants made their show. Was interesting to see how cebuanos have lived in the past.

*5. Bamboo Hanging Bridge - a bridge made of bamboo hanging over the river. Well that is the most epic description I can put here! That's it. Another great attraction :P

*6. Bilar Man Made Forest - all trees planted by hand in the 1960's and that is what make it special, coz it is made by humans, but what you will see, it is just a forest, nothing special here. Trees as everywhere, not so picturesque.

*7. Habitat Bohol (Butterfly Garden) - guided tour last around 10 minutes. Guide show us 5 butterflies, explained stadiums of their lives, squeezed them to show us they smelly liquids and the tour was over :)

*8. Chocolate Hills Complex Viewing Deck - finally the place I came there for. Chocolate hills are a geological formation, covered in green grass that turns brown (like chocolate) during the dry season, hence the name. There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as many as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (20 sq mi). The unique land form known as the Chocolate Hills of Bohol was formed ages ago by the uplift of coral deposits and the action of rain water and erosion.

Three legends explain the formation of the Chocolate Hills.

The first tells the story of two feuding giants who hurled rocks, boulders, and sand at each other. The fighting lasted for days, and exhausted the two giants. In their exhaustion, they forgot about their feud and became friends, but when they left they forgot to clean up the mess they had made during their battle, hence the Chocolate Hills.

A more romantic legend tells of a giant named Arogo who was extremely powerful and youthful. Arogo fell in love with Aloya, who was a simple mortal. Aloya's death caused Arogo much pain and misery, and in his sorrow he could not stop crying. When his tears dried, the Chocolate Hills were formed.

The third legend tells of a town being plagued by a giant carabao, who ate all of their crops. Finally having had enough, the townsfolk took all of their spoiled food and placed it in such a way that the carabao would not miss it. Sure enough, the carabao ate it, but his stomach couldn't handle the spoiled food, so he defecated, leaving behind him a mound of feces, until he had emptied his stomach of the food. The feces then dried, forming the Chocolate Hills. (source: Wikipedia)

Place is really picturesque and worth seeing. Hills looks unbelievable. We were there while they were totally green so we couldn't see "chocolate" hills, but still place is amazing.
