On the road: roadtrip through australia (part 1)

Glad to have you back. After having been posted in my previous blog entry
(Australia - Tips for your road trip) a little bit about the preparation and other important things, which one should consider on a trip to Australia, I will tell you now more about our exciting journey.

LET' S GO!

The journey starts with a looooong flight time. Unfortunately, this is also part of it. If you don't fly in business class, it can cost you a lot of energy. It is narrow, there is a low humidity (<15%), little sleep, etc.
So here are some tips for long-haul flights:

drink lots of water
moisturizing cream in hand luggage
glasses instead of contact lenses
a regular walk through the airplane
circulation and stretching exercises

After we had survived the flights surprisingly well and landed in Sydney in the evening, we took the next train directly to Central Station. From there our hostel was within walking distance.

Tip:
I would recommend everyone to think about how to get from the airport to their first accommodation. Uber is a great opportunity, but we didn't have an internet connection at the beginning and therefore couldn't use this service.

After checking in at the hostel, we quickly freshened up and left immediately to see at least a little bit of Sydney. It has brought us to The Rocks to the port area of Sydney, where you can enjoy a great view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House has. At night it's a different experience from daytime!
After a walk of several hours we fell into bed exhausted. However, you will not be able to expect a quiet night in the city centre.

In the morning a nice Uber-driver drove us safely and cheaply to the car rental. It took us a while to get the keys to our camper. That was also very uncomplicated. Full of joyful anticipation, the adventure could really start!
Attention: It is a big change when you are suddenly confronted with the left-hand traffic. Driving a camper is also unusual for the time being. You first have to develop a feeling for the size of the new vehicle. Therefore, it is better to drive more slowly and concentrate on the wrong direction. The Australians fully understand this.

Our first destination -Hyams Beach - is about 200 km away from Sydney. A dreamlike beach with the whitest sand you can find on Australian ground. At least that's what the internet says :) The Booderee NP is next to the "beach of your dreams", where you can also camp. However, this campsite is very popular. We couldn't find a free place there months before. That's why we had to find another resting place as close as possible. We arrived in a caravan park in the 30 km Sussex Inlet below. The detour was definitely worthwhile, because there is also a lot to see.

Tip:
On the way you can have a break in many beautiful places at "Seven-Miles-Beach" at Berrys Bay. Think about which spots you want to see on the way. We had an internet connection in the camper and were able to pick out suitable spots while driving.

In the afternoon we will finally arrieved at the Hyams Beach (Jarvis Bay) and our high expectations were not disappointed. Pearl white sand, crystal clear water and a beach as far as the eye can see. JACKPOT! Only the kangaroos on the beach are missing :)

We took a little sunbath and went back home. Unfotunately you have to eat something, even if you don't want to spend your precious time for it. In the evening we went for a walk in the area and met the first kangaroos. What wonderful animals! Depending on how much they are used to people, they can also be stroked. But you should always be careful and respectful towards the animals.

The next day we also spent at Hyams Beach and in the afternoon we went to Fisherman’s Rock at the Barrera Creek (a secret tip of our lessor). There you will also meet many kangaroos and nice people.

What we have already experienced in the first two days in Australia is insanity. And that was just the beginning. In the next few days we will take a little time off from the sunny Starnder experiences and Australian animals and head up to the Snowy Mountains. We will take the opportunity to go directly to one of the Seven Summits. Let's see what awaits us there!
