Illimani the 8km Giant

Hello Steemit community!
Today I want to talk about the Illimani a 6.462 meters majestic mountain that has been considered the guardian of the city La Paz since its foundation and the Spanish colony arrival. This mountain has Inspired hundreds of people that live here, illustrated by lots of artists, named in many songs and described in lots of books and novels.

Although considered a Snowy Mountain, it is actually an extinct volcano, having erupted for the last time in 1869.
It's name meaning is "Golden Eagle" translated from Aymara a native language spoken by over one million of people in Bolivia and Peru.

"Yatiris" which are medical practitioners and community healers among the Aymara people use the Illimani as a symbol of protection and abundance in spiritual rituals and offerings.

For us that live in La Paz it is impossible to imagine this city without the "guardian" watching us from the horizon.
If the day is not cloudy the Illimani can be seen from almost every corner of the city.

It is also a great place for hikers!!
