Taxi trip to Ganga Talao statues and temples.

As you will know from my previous post, Taxi trip to various destinations in Mauritius we were on a taxi ride to explore the Southern Region of Mauritius. One of the places we visited was the Ganga Talao, which is a sacred crater lake for the Hindu people of Mauritius. The statue at the top of the post and the one below is of Durga Mata, and stands 33m tall.

The next two photos are the statue of Lord Shiva, which is also 33m tall, these two statues are the tallest in Mauritius. This statue is a copy of the Shiva statue in Sursagar Lake, India.


This temple is just next to the two big statues and features various statues of Hindu gods.

The next photos shows a number of these statues. Note the flowers that are left at the feet of the statues to pay homage.

It is quite a large complex that stretches to the other side of the lake, I loved this setting, it is beautiful.

This part of the trip was very interesting and we enjoyed it a lot to see and learn more about the culture of the Mauritian people.
