Back From Mexico

So this past Sunday I arrived back from Mexico. It was kind of funny, initially my mom had planned a family trip for my whole family my grandparents, cousins, sister, nephew, etc. Of course getting 30 something people together is difficult so that fell apart. It then turned into my parents, my sister, brother in law, nephew, and my girlfriend, and then at the last minute my sister found out she was pregnant, and because of Zica Virus couldn't go. It wound up being a trip with myself, my girlfriend and my parents. Needless to say initially I was less than enthused. That said it wound up being a great time.

I normally stay a bit further South in Playa Del Carmen or Tulum. I also tend to like smaller hotels as opposed to all inclusives, however this time we stayed at an All Inclusive. This was my first time visiting an All Inclusive and while I can say it's not really my thing, I can see the allure for some people of attending an AI and having everything taken care of and having a higher level of service. I'm a simple dude though and prefer just a small little hotel on the beach.

We arrived in Cancun last Tuesday, spent the first day hanging out on the beach. I didn't wind up taking nearly as many photos as I normally do. Back home I'm normally glued to my computer working on my Youtube Channel, working on my business, checking crypto prices, or playing around on Steemit so it was nice to take a step back from work and computers and just enjoy my time down there.

To my surprise I went a whole 5 days without ever even looking at crypto prices and I'm still alive, the world didn't fall apart and the crypto markets didn't crash, lol, who woulda known.

Our first full day in town we headed over to a spot called Aqua World where you can do various snorkling trips, rent boats, and do other water sports. We got a deal two people, speed boat rental, and snorkling for $99 if we went at 8:00am so we got up bright and early and caught a taxi over there. It was loads of fun. I wish I had more pictures, but unfortunately my girlfriends camera died. We rode the speedboats through the mangroves and then out to the ocean where we did some snorkling. I've only snorkled a few times before, it was loads of fun, got to see a coral reef and lots of cool fish. Fish sure poop alot, as I'd be watching them streams of poop would be shooting out their butts, yuk. Makes you wonder what your swimming in lol. None the less was lots of fun.

Next day we decided to take my folks down to Playa Del Carmen to walk down 5th Avenue and checkout the town. While I didn't get any pics of Playa, here is me hopping on the Ferry for us to head over to Cozumel. The plan was to rent a VW Bug Convertible or a Jeep and drive around the island stopping at beach bars and little secluded beaches. Here's me getting on the Ferry.

Now this is an interesting story. I have a quote I made up that goes something like this. "Family Vacations are disasters upon which we look back fondly". I think of National Lampoons Family Vacation movies where while the entire trip often winds up being a disaster, you look back on it very fondly and those "disastrous situations" wind up being fond memories.

That's how this particular day trip went. After getting to Cozumel we rented a Jeep for myself, my girlfriend and my parents to go around the Island. The Jeep was in horrible shape, you coudln't tell which gear you were in, the doors didn't work so my 60 something year old parents had to climb up into the Jeep through the back, and to top if off they gave me a Jeep that was empty on gas. I was told just drive down the road there's a gas station on your left. Well unfortunately for me the main road was closed so I had to take a detour through a bunch of one way side streets. After getting lost for about an hour and a half and nearly out of gas, and after an hour and a half with my girlfriend and I yelling at each other, her frustrated with my driving and me frustrated with her navigation we finally found and pulled into a gas station. The picture above is my look of frustration as well as relief to have finally found gas lol. We filled up and departed on our way around the island, unfortunately some of our day was wasted but at least we had gas and were about to enjoy a sunny day on the water.

After finally getting gas and starting our cruise around the Island we stopped at one of our favorite bars called Coconuts which overlooks the ocean on this big hill. Beautiful scenery, fun place to hangout, good food, good drinks. Unfortunately this is my last photo from this day but on the way back we took the Ferry back to Playa and then hopped on the ADO bus back to Cancun. My folks are more organized tour type people so it was fun to take them on a more off the beaten path adventure, although I'm sure it was a long day for them. We finally got back in Downtown Cancun about 10PM and we all piled into a small little economy car taxi where the driver whipped through narrow streets at about 90mph narrowly missing cars left and right before we finally pulled up back at our resort. I joked to my parents, so when are we taking our next vacation together? It was a long and exhausting day but a lot of fun at the same time.

The next day we decided to take a Ferry over to Isla Mujeres, a small island just across Cancun. We had origionally planned on doing some snorkling on the South End of the island, however after first visiting Playa Norte and seeing the beautiful beach and the water we decided to hangout on the beach for a couple hours, and then took our golf cart around the island to checkout the coast and some of the sights.

I didn't take as many pictures this trip is I normally do but we had a lot of fun times, figured I'd do a quick post and share some of them with you guys. Hope you enjoyed my post.
