Santorini has lot of donkeys or mules all over the island so that tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view of Santorini and its curved Caldera.

All over the island, you see Sanatorinians riding donkeys and inviting yo to join them. Here is one of them.

These donkeys are so lovely. Look at them.

They are so adorable. Don't you just love them?

On this day, we also hopped onto a donkey ride up the winding path to the top of the Caldera.

It is a fun ride going up because the hill is just too steep to climb up on our own.

I am not used to riding animals, not even horses, so it is a new experience for me. I try to relax as the donkeys make their way up there. And I try to look far away to enjoy the beautiful scenery ahead of me.

Going up is fine but coming down is very very SCARY for me.

I try to smile and relax and enjoy the ride.

Look at the breathtaking view in front of you and you will forget you are even on a donkey.

Travel Gem Tip:
Take a day out to Oia Santorni and go for a donkey ride to the top of the Caldera. Do NOT try to ride a donkey when you get off from the ferry boat because lots of people will come and lure you to go for the donkey ride to go up to town.

When you see this winding path, you will be tempted to follow them.

When you book your hotel in Santorini, ask your hotel manager for the free taxi ride up to the hotel. Most of the hotels provide free shuttles so there is no need for you to ride on a donkey or even pay your own taxi fare. The ride up the mountain is a winding path and takes about 20 - 30 minutes car ride. If you ride a donkey, it will probably take an hour and very costly. There is no scenery there to see either.

Go for your donkey ride in Oia for a one day trip.
