Darjeeling Diary Part-1
Hello steemets. Travelling is my hobby. I travel a lot. Today i am going to share my Darjeeling tour. Darjeeling a land of hills & trees. It is a called land of haven. I am going to start my diary with most hot spot for visiting “Tiger Hill”.
TIGER HILL, DARJEELING
One of the major tourist attractions in Darjeeling is the Tiger Hill, which is the highest point in the region. Tiger Hill is located 11kms (6.8 miles) from Darjeeling town and above Ghum. It's the highest point in Darjeeling hills at an altitude of 8482 feet (or 2590 meters). The best season to see the dazzling snow covered peaks as the sun rises is between Mid October to December. March to April is also a good time. The Tiger Hill is one of the two points in India from where you can capture the entire panorama between Mount Everest and Kanchendzonga along with other peaks like the Kabru, Rathong and Kokhtang on a sunny morning.
The other point from where you can have a glimpse of a similar panorama is from Phalut, at 3,600 meters approximately, which can be only reached by trekking. The Phalut trekking route from Darjeeling starts from Manebhanjan and goes through Tonglu, Giribas, Kalapokhri and Sandakphu. The Singalila National Park that falls on the trekking route is yet another attraction in and around Darjeeling. Nonetheless, the Tiger Hill is best known for the amazing view of the Kanchendzonga peak at sunrise. It is easily accessible by road and roughly takes 40-45 minutes to reach from Darjeeling town.
BE ON TIME & DON’T MISS THE SUNRISE
For sunrise, you will need to start by 3:30am in the morning so that you reach by 4.15am. In winter you can start around 4:15am. Some taxi drivers will insist that you start even earlier. There is a reason why. As you reach close to the summit, particularly during the high season there would be a long queue of cars. Hundreds of tourists come here everyday for the sunrise view during the high season. As a result, you may have to walk uphill quite a bit as your vehicle may be parked much below the top.
